  1. He didn't give himself anything. The mechanic was doing his job and impatience from another caused a unnecessary accident, hope the mechanic is ok.

  2. NO, I didnt see him giving ''Himself'' a ruptured spleen.

However i did see Kimi giving him a ruptured spleen ;-)

  3. no

  4. The mechanic is going to be OK apparantly.

The problem is with Ferrari's new traffic light system which has replaced the old fashioned "lollipop man" and Kimi jumping the green light.

Previously Ferrari used to have a man stood at the front of the car with a large sign that looks a bit like a lollipop.  All other teams still use this system, basically when everyone has finished changing the tyres and refuelling the car, he would lift his lollipop and release the driver.  He would also make sure no cars were coming past and delay the release if there were so as to avoid the chance of a collision in the pit lane.  This system wasn't infallible as the lollipop man sometimes raised his sign before the pit-crew was properly finished, but it was pretty good.

Ferrari now have a set of lights that appear in front of the driver when he stops.  They are red when the driver first comes in and when each of the men changing tyres and the refuller are finished, they press a button to say so.  When all buttons are pressed the driver then gets the green light, regardless of whether or not another car is coming down the pit lane.

Raikonnen set off before he got the green light, I am guessing that he felt the refuelling rig being lifted off the car and just started off again, but the rig didn't detach cleanly (which is quite a common occurence) and drove off with the refuelling nozzle still attached and mowed down his refueller.

I suspect Ferrari will go back to the old fashioned method for next race or modify their existing setup.

  5. I don't know about a ruptured spleen, but I did hear the mechanic may have a broken leg!

I'm just glad he is gonna be ok! I don't know what Kimi was thinking when he was in the pits.

Edit: Autosport reported that the mechanic suffered an injured foot and complained about his back!

  6. I bet he wished he had called in sick that morning.

  7. that's abit harsh, it wasn't as if he had planned to cause himself an injury that could see him out of his work for bout a year. it was just one of them things where it was an accident & possible fault on the fuel hose.

Still looked pretty bad from the replay

  8. Well I saw the accident but I don't know about a ruptured spleen!!
