Did you see the comercial where they check the oil level?

Its a comercial where they say we've gone through about half our oil supply and its in favor of conserving oil. I've been saying this since the gas prices went up, that it had something to do with oil eventually being depleted and thats the real reason they've introduced alternative fuel options. What do you think?

It's up to us to stop using oil on an individual basis. If enough of us do that demand will fall and prices will come down. Then, after the war in Iraq is over, demand will fall even more and the supply will get better by adding Iraqi oil to the open market.

I like the Hybrid alternative, which might not be the final application to the gas or oil shortage dilemma however, its a start.  Also, this allows our farmers to become more competitive in the marketplace.  Wow? wouldn't that be great!!!  Thank you, excellent question.

I don't think oil will run out. In 1973 scientists were saying then that we only had thirty years of oil reserves left and an alternative to oil needed to be found. Here we are 2007 and now they are saying we are half way through the oil.

They know how much alternatives cost to produce and it's dearer than gas is today. No alternative that is cheaper than oil will ever be allowed to be produced. That's the power of the oil companies.

I  have read a lot of information on alternative sources of energy and the ones that work have been shelved. Some have even been threatened with prosecution if they continue with their work. The ones that ignored the warning, disappeared never to be seen again.

I applaud conservation because if we reduce demand then the price will come down. If an alternative was found that was really cheap and it made oil obsolete, you would see sales pitches like "Buy one and get one free"

I think thta we should realize that oil wont last forever. I don't think it's why gas prices are up. I think gas prices are inflated deliberatly to force people to consider other options like hybrid vehicles and electrics and solar. All good Ideas! I hate paying more for gas too. but if it will get some of these stupid giant cars and trucks off the road. I guess it has an up side. The dowside is it makes all things more expensive. We should be careful about what we choose as alt fuel sources. Ethanol is the "WORST idea in the long sad history of bad ideas" Wow were running out of oil,, I know we'll burn our food. hmm that makes sense?????   I can't believe it's happening. But it's true. Corn, a food staple. Use it for car fuel. What will we eat?

The fact that oil is not a renewable resource is one motivation for creating alternative fueled vehicles.  Another is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

While we are certainly consuming petroleum at a rate much faster than it is being created, no one knows how much of the total reserves have been used up.  Maybe it is one half, maybe it's more, maybe it's less.
