Did anyone else notice how empty the stands were by the end of the race? What do you think is/was the cause of the emptiness?

  1. no but i did notice kyle auctually got cheers california home of the biggest bandwagon fans

  2. I think nascar should drop this race track....it very borning to watch...Let me do a poll on this...

  3. I would assume that most of the people left because of the fires that the media was showing in the background.  You never know which way it is going to go and I'm sure some people had to go that way.  I might have left if my driver was in the middle or the end of the pack just to beat the crowds and the fire.

  4. the race was over and it was hot.

and it's not such a novelty for kyle to win...

this is his fifth win in less than half a season....

and they're probably counting on the fact that they'll see it happen again...

ps. too bad for those who left - what a beautiful burnout they missed...

  5. Yeah, that last ten laps were awesome. I was surprised to see so many fans leave. Maybe that's why we heard cheering for Kyle Busch. The haters left early because they didn't want to see him win. His fans stayed behind to watch him take the checkered flag.

  6. tony was crashed

  7. I think it was probably all of the reasons mentioned - except one in my opinion.  I don't think it was because Kyle was going to win and no one wanted to see it.  But of course I could be wrong.

It's HOT out there!  The sun beats down all day long and there is no shade.  It's not an "exciting" run to the finish like most races.  The parking lot situation if I remember what my Dad told me is UGLY and traffic is horrific.

And one more thing could add to it, but I am not sure...it's Sunday at 6pm in California, but for some people I bet it's more like 8 or 9pm Sunday for them because they live on the otherside of Colorado and they have to work tomorrow.

But I could be wrong about that last one...LOL!!

Edited to add - The red flag, too - like "19" said I think?  They knew there was a BIG CHANCE it could end up finishing under caution...or at least they were pretty convinced of what the outcome would be based upon only at the MOST two laps with Kyle dominating the race, he wasn't giving that up.  So I guess where I said people didn't leave because Kyle was going to win wasn't entirely right based upon this aspect of looking at it.  But I still don't think it was because they were "sick of seeing him win".

  8. there probably was not very many people in the stands because of the gas prices i would hate to want to see what the gas prices in california

  9. 48Jr has a great point and alot of people left to beat traffic?

  10. Dale Jr wasnt doing all that good and didnt have a real chance at winning so most ppl left, and did you hear ppl were actually cheering for kyle,

  11. Yes the grandstands there are rarely ever full, fans are scattered all over the place there so don't base it on the stands, people were on the hills, motorhome lots watching the race..Traffic is normally a total pain getting out of here I don;t have a plane to catch till almost 11:50 tonight, so I"m just hanging around here for a while..

Oh yes, I forgot there was a lot of smoke in the air there from some of the wildfires burning here in No Calif... So if you have any kind of breathing problems it would have been hard on you....But all the wineries up here had a lot of race viewing parties as well....

    Go Dale Jr & Hms

  12. Biggest reason - traffic.  Sonoma is absolute h**l to get out of.

Most of the seats you saw empty were in the "Family" section - and all you can see from that section is the "S" turns.

The main grandstand, Turn 2, 3, 7, and 9 terraces were still very full.

There is no grandstand that has great seats at this track.  There were plenty of people with general admission tickets still around.  And you can see better with the general admission than you can in the seats - believe it or not.

  13. Jr. being in tenth (not a rip at him, just a fact he has the most fans), the hot weather, the red flag, the fact it's a road course and you only see the cars every minute or so but I would have stayed if it was raining fire and my driver had no chance. Nascar rules.

  14. i've seen a lot of empty seats at a lot of tracks this year; both with the race in progress and toward the end.

infineon seems like the kind of track that when it's close to the end there's not much else too see.

  15. Ticked off fans of another driver I imagine,  just kind of slinked off to cry knowing what the outcome would be.

But lots of Kyle fans were still there. .
