the one with the woman that breastfeed her daughter until she was almost 8 and for her 9th birthday she asked for breast milk and she has a 7 year old that she was still breast feeding how do you feel about breasting a child that long i think maybe if she was pumping it and drinking it from a cup it would have been ok but to have you 7 year old breastfeeding is kind of to weird what do you think

I didn't personally see the show but nursing that long could lead to some making fun of at school and in public. I could almost see it if she was pumping and giving it to them. I have 2 children and I am avid about breastfeeding. I personally breastfed my first till she was 2 and my second is nine months and breastfeeding still. It is her life and her choice but I would be afraid of the mental effects that it would have on the child.

okay from infant to like 4 thats okay cause theyre still young but after that i would consider that incest thats so gross!and they will have developmental issues and such,they must all be on something strong to be breast feeding that old!she should tell them cartoned milk is the same as the milk in mommie's boob thats what i told my daughter when she asked me for num num (thats what she calls them)at 2 years old,see i weened her off at around maybe when she was 1 and a half because if i didnt this could have been me !

Did you see the part where Spirit (interesting name), the psychologist, commented about it?  I agree 100% with everything she said.  There are no nutritional, mental or physical benefits to breastfeeding that long.  Its also highly likely that there are some severe intimacy issues going on.  That child will have some issues when they get older.

The only reason that would be ok..is if the children were starving and that was their only source of nutrition....otherwise...it's just plain awful!!!

Yeah, that's very weird. Those kids are going to have some psychological issues... besides the fact that they'll get made fun of, if either one of the kids was a boy he'll probably have a weird obsession with b*****s - different from normal boys.... I don't know... I'm sure the nutrients are good but you get the nutrients you need from other foods as you get older, and besides - why would you want to put your b*****s through that for so long???

WOW thats pretty gross..No I didnt see that episode. I knew a lady who breastfed her youngest until he was 4 yrs old but that was it. I tried breastfeeding my first born, but he wouldnt latch on. My second child I breastfed until she was 7 months old and then I quit because she bit me. OUCH that hurt. I am now 10 weeks pregnant and plan on breastfeeding this one until he or she is at least 1. But thats as long as I will go.

I think children should stop being breastfed by no later than age 2. Most kids over the age of 1 should be drink whole milk anyway. I think it's weird to see a child nursing over the age of 2.

I love breastfeeding, but no way.  I never imagined that there were people who would nurse that long.  I can't see how that can be emotionally healthy for her or her children.  I wish I'd seen the show.

Talk about GROSS though. I mean what good would a 7 yr old get out of breastmilk anyway after all of the shots they get as a toddler and in school?.. This makes no since to me what-so-ever!.

I have breastfed all 3 of my babies, and will with the one on the way.  I absolutely enjoyed the bond of breastfeeding and had a hard time giving it up - but I did when each of them turned 1.

So with that being said.  Breastfeeding any child over the age of 3 or 4 is more than a little wierd in my opinion!

What is it that makes it inappropriate?   Is it the nutrition that the child is getting?  How about the child's needs being met?

Shouldn't we see it as wierd that we forcibly stop our human babies from drinking human milk so that they can drink milk from another species?

Most children will wean all on their own between ages 3 and 5.  For some, they will wean earlier and some will wean later; quite normall and naturally.  These children are WEANING.  They nurse less and less as time goes on, sometimes going several days and are moving towards full weaning.  

Most children will not decide to nurse so long, but for the few who do, why on earth would it be inappropriate?  They have been nursing from day one.  The context is and has always been from a maternal nurturing and caring perspective.  They will developer a healthy image of the human female body as opposed to the preverted image most children grow up knowing.

It's not wierd.  It's just not common.  Wierd is forcing a human child to stop having human milk so they can have bovine milk.

yea thats pretty bad...my thing is, if your child can come over to you and say "mommy, can i have your breast, im hungry"...no deal....and get ur panties out of the jumble thier in csj_mac , its not healthy for the child...how can you have a well adjusted child in a social atmosphere when he/she is old enough to read, and talk to his/her friends.Unfortunatley kids are developing younger and younger these days...its not the "idea" of the breastmilk thats wierd....its the thought of a second grader suckling at ur breast....

yeah i agree with you pumping and drinking it from a cup but not nursing from here that is wrong, i can see all the antibodies and things like that from the breast milk. but omg how would she even keep her supply up lol i have a 7 month old and i can hardly keep up with mine because she is starting solids and eating them 2-3 times a day. yeah i thinks its very weird
