I shared a room with my sister. We had twin beds, our own chest of drawers but shared a vanity and mirror. There was never a private moment. I love to read in a quiet place but that was not possible. Sister was always in there with her transistor radio blaring ! A lot of times she had friends in there too, She was not a reader or book worm like me (that's what she called me) To me she was just annoying and we hardly ever got along. I swore that when I had kids they would never have to share a room. Poppy

  1. I am the only child, of an only child.  Not only did I never share a room, I always had TWO bedrooms growing up.  One for a bedroom, the other for a play/craft room.

"Share"....I don't think that word was in my vocabulary until I started to go to elementary school.

Growing up an only child also has it's drawbacks.  Did you know other children actually lie?  I didn't learn that until I started school!

  2. No I never had too. Fortunately for me (in a manner of speaking) I was the only girl in the family. I had 4 brothers so I always had a room to myself.

I was also my Dad'a little Darling and spoilt rotten by him. My brothers didnt stand a chance. HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE.

  3. I did share a room with my younger sister.  We divided the room many times, but my side of the room had the door and the closet, and I would dare her to cross the line that was"drawn".  We had many disagreements but many good times also.  When I was in my early teens I finally had my own room and it was fabulous!

  4. No, I did not share rooms with my two brothers.

  5. Yes I did.  We put chalk marks and tape and string and everything down the middle.  I was 15 when my parent took an extra large closet and made me a room  It had room for my bed and a small chest. It was mine. I could barely turn around.  My sister was 10. No she didn't get the bigger room, she had to share with another sister because a new baby was there.

  6. No I never had the pleasure since I was an only child.

  7. Yes I shared a room with my older sister. We had twin beds and a night stand in the middle with two drawers, one mine and one hers. We had a double dresser I got half the drawers and she got the other half. We had a desk which was hers completely. I had to do my homework on the kitchen table. But, I got to eat while I did my homework because we weren't allowed to take food in the bedroom. We shared a closet until I was about 9 and then I came home from school one day to find that I had my very own closet in the hall way. I thought I was so lucky. I showed everyone my very own closet. We did listen to the radio long after we were suppose to be asleep. Sometimes I would fall asleep and she would always turn it off so we wouldn't get caught. We talked about all kinds of things and sometimes she would read to me until I fell asleep. Very fond memories and I think it made us very close. When I had my own children, I had two a boy and a girl so they each had their own room but they had 6 bedrooms to choose from and they picked rooms right next to each other and I could hear them talking at night.

  8. Yes I did Poppy!  W/ my very angry older sister ...she would crawl into my bed afraid every night, but god forbid I even look at her any other time ,or she would flatten me!  she would run tape down the middle of the room ,and if I would even put a toe on her side, look out, the fists' would fly...I now have 3 kids of my own , and thank god every day that, I am the type of mom who does not put up w/ any of that BS!!! they all share 1 room out of necessity and they are all boys all close in age. it is a big room. they like it. I think they seem to find comfort in it. May be when the oldest hits teens we will have to look for a larger home, but right now it is all we can do to fill the gas tank!

  9. I hope that in the intervening years you have patched things up with sis.  I shared a room with my younger brother and the same thing happened, but after we became adults, we resolved our childhood differences.

  10. I did share a room with my sister until I was about 8 yrs old, then my dad remodeled our house and added a couple of bedrooms, one of which was going to mine.  After weeks of anticaption of having my own room, planning the colors, position of the bed, dresser etc. and just biting at the bit. It was finally finished.  I put posters up, I got to pick coordinating sheets and bedspread the whole nine yards.  It was wonderful.  The first night I was so scared and lonely, I crawled into bed with my sister and did so for about two weeks.

  11. I shared a room with my sister until I was 11; she was four years younger than me, and my mom always made me leave so that she could have her friends over to play.  I only have one child; I would certainly have done everything I could to allow my children their own individual space had I had more than one.

  12. My sister and I (I was the oldest) shared a double bed until she left home, when she married.  I couldn't wait until that day came.   It was like I was given this great blessing, at last.  A bed to myself.   I actually counted the days, once we knew which day she was getting married on, and crossed them out, one by one, and as the day got closer, I wasn't excited about her marriage, but about my own bed.   I used to spend half the time on the floor, wrapped in a quilt, because I couldn't stand her turning and kicking all night.

My children NEVER shared a bed.  A bedroom yes, but they always had their own bed and own chest of drawers.  For eight years we had 9 children, and not one of them complained about their bedroom situation.

That is the great thing about being a parent, you can always improve on what YOU went through when you were a child.

  13. I shared with mom!!! The 12th child at 47 for her I think i was her Birth Control. ha ha

  14. I was the only girl and had to share a room with my little brother until I was 13 yrs old!  At which time I took a very small room (really just a storage space but enough to jam a single bed into) and put a curtin on the door (as there was no door) and put shelves up on the wall to hold books, etc.  There was no heating duct in there either (lol) I moved out and was on my own by 17 right after I graduated high school - so only 4 yrs of that.

  15. siublings sharing a room is good for them. They need to learn to get along. Until a certain age, that is. Once they hit about 10 they are gonna need their own spaces. You need some privacy growing up.

  16. My twin sisters shared a room until they got into highschool. One took

over my old bedroom and the other took the guest room across the

hall with the bathroom for them to share, in between. I always had my

own room, in both houses where we grew up. In the first house, I was

moved upstairs after my dad had it finished and I moved in. The twins

took over my small bedroom downstairs in their cribs. I never under-

stood, why my parents didn't take over the large upstairs bedroom.

Maybe because that was the only place for an extra bed for company.

I shared my room when my grandma came to visit, or out of town

guests. In the second house, there was an extra bedroom for company, so no one gave up a bed. My dad used the other bedroom

because of his snoring. When company came, he went back to the

    master bedroom  LOL.

  17. Yes, I shared with my two brothers.  Separate bedrooms would have been nice, but we got through it all OK.

  18. Yes we shared and we now enjoy reliving those days in modern day emails.

  19. didn't everyone!!!

  20. I shared a room with my sister.  When we were younger she was really messy so I got some masking tape and put a line down the room separating our sides.  Mine was always tidy.

When we got older my sister realised that our brothers actually had the bigger room so she said we should get the larger room because we are girls.  We got it.  She also learnt to play the guitar and she would play and sing me to sleep at night with Don McLeans "And I Love You So".

  21. yes

  22. I shared with my sister until I was 13 and she was 6. Then my brother moved out and I got his room. She drove me crazy, and was ALWAYS in my stuff. Now, we are best of friends!

  23. I had the luxury of having a bedroom all to myself but sadly never the luxury of having a sibling.

  24. Nope I didn't have to share my bedroom as it was just my brother and I. He had his and I had mine. We did share other things though, our parents made sure of that.

  25. Yes. One brother the entire time we were growing up.
