Did you stay best friends after high school?

My best friends and I are going separate ways for college. When I say best friends, I mean...inseparable, like a family. We believe we will be great friends for many years to come, perhaps forever. Am I being naive? I'm incredibly optimistic. Tell me your stories.

  1. This is my story, it may not happen to you. But when I left my BF to go to college we tried to stay good friends but it is 4 years later and we barely talk to each other. You make a lot of new friends in college and you grow a lot too. I hope for you that you remain good friends but be prepared to grow at least a little apart

  2. Friendships are only as good as the effort put into them.  Our first year of college my HS BFF and I kin do lost touch, we were both busy joining groups, making friends, and making the grade. After that, we realized we really wanted to be more in touch.  We have a phone date every Thursday night. That way, we talk at least once a week and are closer than ever.

One major thing that I see breaking off lots of friendships is jealousy.  She is going to make new friends that she is with most of the time, and you will too.  It's just important to remember to make time for each other.

  3. No you're not. I have one best friend from high school who I am still very close with and I have other friends who I wasn't to close with in high school but am best friends with them to. And I go to school in TX and they go to school in VA.

You may not talk as much but whenever we get back together it's like nothing has changed. But it's not the same for everyone, because college does change you. But if it's meant to be than you two will remain friends. And with things like facebook and AIM it's a lot easier to keep in touch with your friends.

  4. Nope. My best friend and I stayed very close even when we didn't see each other very often. We always made sure to get together ever ytime I came home from school. Now we are older then I'd like to admit and still best friends.

  5. 20 years later and we still talk but aren't best friends, we are just friends now

  6. Friends come and go, enemies accumulate.  If you move away you will meet new people that likely have more in common with your current situation than previous BFFs.  Thats not to say you wont be friends when you talk or get together though.

  7. Wow...I'm exactly like you, well almost. My bff tells me I'm naive. Like you, I'm really optimistic and we are going to different colleges. My friendship has kind of been like a roller coaster, but just like the past 2 years...Last summer started off wrong and I thought our friendship was lost, but we made it through. That year, more obstacles came, but we got through it too....I remember one time, we said we'd be friends forever, but I guess only time will tell?!?! I hope we stay friends forever but I'm not sure if that's what she wants. I hope that I can come back to this Q and say, "Yeah, we did stay best friends after high school."

  8. I've gotten even closer to my best friends since high school and we're spread out all over the country, from California to New York. Just be sure to put in some effort and keep each other updated on your lives :)
