Did you take the ACT or the SAT? Where are you from?

Here we take the SAT, but it seems like everywhere else takes the ACT. Thanks.

I'm from Utah and I took both, but the ACT is much more common.  I think that the trend for some reason is that the SAT is favored on the East and West coasts, and inland regions more favored the ACT.  

I took the SAT first and got a 2230, and then I took the ACT and got a 35, which is significantly better, so I would recommend taking both in case one clicks with you more.

In NJ most take the SAT, but my younger son took both. The ACT uses information that you may have learned earlier in life, for example maybe life sciences. Usually that is taught in Jr. High not HS but overall the tests are comparable.

And, as far as I knew, most everywhere in the States, students are encouraged to take both tests.
