First of all my DH and I have been TTC for 5 months. I am currently 5DPO. That being said, I have a 2 year old female beagle and a 1 year old male beagle/border collie mix. The 1 year old has never been really cuddley, he may curl up beside me when he goes to sleep but that is about it. My DH works second shift and I first, so I am already in bed when he gets home. When he came to bed last night we were lying pretty close in bed and the 1 year old walked over me and laid down on me in between my DH and I. He the got up paced around a little and jumped off the bed. Almost as soon as he jumped off the bed he jumped back on and laid over my mid section. After lying there for a while he stretched out across my upper body and put his head on my head. He jumped off the bed again and jumped right back up and laid across my midsection and growled (uncharacteristic of him) at my DH when he leaned over to kiss me. My question is did your animals act different when you were tcc before you actually found out you were pregnant?

  1. yes. my did. i have a shitzu and she started being more cuddly, never leaves my sight. always walks after me, sleeps with me. And now that my stomach is big(30 weeks) she puts her head on it and sleeps. Once i noticed that the baby was kicking her and my dog was mumbling something back to her..like complaining that the baby is kicking ..lol i wish i had my cam lol =)

    Good luck.

  2. YES!! I was wondering if I was the only one.  Through out my entire pregnancy my cat has been acting weird.  He follows me around always meowing wanting to be pet.  The bad thing is if I don't pet him he has started to attack me?  It is really weird because he has never attacked me before and then all the sudden when I got pregnant he started and now does it at least once a day.  I am thinking that he knows something is about to happen and it is going to be bad for him because he is not going to get attention.

  3. I think they can sense things. Since I've become pregnant, it's like the are starving for more and more attention! (as if they are not the center of attention already!) My cat will touch my belly a lot since the baby kicked him once lol!

  4. My cats have all been cuddly as heck towards me the whole time. It's like they can sense my maternal instincts kickin' in. Good luck, I hope you've got your bun cooking away in the oven!

  5. Well, I do believe that animals are more sensitive to subtle changes than we are. 5 dpo seems a bit early even for super dog to detect tho. And even so, how would they know that whatever they're sensing, like a smell changing, would equal a baby, and how would they know they should protect it?

When my mother was farther along with me, her Irish Setter took to putting her head on her lap and belly...Mom thinks it's because she could hear me in there.

  6. yes i have a staffordshire bull terrier and it seems most people i know theyre animals sense the change esspecailly the female ones. my staff got very protective and was barking all the time, wouldnt leave my side. she knew before me that i was pregnant. and she got stupidly over protective once i had the baby. my staff wanted to sleep in my bed and used to put her head on my lap alot.

  7. I think so when i first found out i was pregnant my pit bull mix would follow me around and would jump on my legs for attention and just always wanted to be around me.

  8. I've got a dog and a cat and neither of them have changed their behavior at all.   They're still the same that they've been for a couple of years now.  For 5 DPO it would be really too early for ANYTHING to be predicted.  I think your dog was just feeling neglected and wanted someone, ANYONE's attention.  Perhaps he's finally coming around to being cuddly.  My guess is it's just a coincidence.
