I don't want a debate about vaccines & autism and all that stuff.

I just want to know if your infant got the Rotavirus Vaccine (oral). If they did, did he/she get the virus?

If he/she did not, did he/she get the virus?

Do you think the vaccine is more like a newer version of the flu shot based on the information you were given?

  1. No, we did not, and no we did not get rotavirus. It is way too new. There was a vaccine for it approved in the late 90's, and it was on the market a little over a year before it was pulled because of cases of intussusception caused by the vaccination, in which some babies died.

There have been cases of intussusception linked with the new Rotateq, but since the cases are fewer, they are considered acceptable and keep the vaccination on the market.

  2. My son did get the vaccine.  He did not get the virus after taking the vaccine.  At this point (2 years old) we have not gotten the virus.  You might have seen this from your doctor but a good thing to read is: http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/pubs/vis/dow...

  3. my son had it and my son is fine

  4. My baby girl got the rotavirus vaccine at 2 months, and she's now 3 months and hasn't gotten the virus.  The doctor told me that since they started this vaccine, they have seen virtually no cases of rotavirus show up in hospitals, so much so that people have been layed off since it used to be so prevalent.  The old vaccine caused intussusception in some babies, but the new ones are considered safe.  It is separate from the flu shot, which would be given seasonally.  There is also that one other shot (forgot the name) which is supposed to keep minor illnesses from turning more serious, like pneumonia.

  5. my son got it at 2 months and again at 4 months..we are due for the 6 months check up in about a week..therotavirus is for diarrhea in infants

  6. My 2 older kids didn't have the shot, and both of them got rota-virus.  Both of them were in the hospital for about 5 days because of it.  And as horrible as it sounds, I won't be getting it for my newborn.  I figure if she gets it, at least she will have an immunity to it.

  7. Nope, we did not get rotavirus.

  8. We did get the vaccine and no he has not had the virus.

I guess maybe you could think of it like the flu vac. considering alot of babies and children end up with virus, which lead up to 55,000 to 70,000 hospitalized and up to 20-60 deaths every year in the US. Where as the Flu vac. can also lead children to be hospitalized or dead. And these vaccines are trying to prevent that.
