After much speculation, Didier Deschamps has handed in his resignation as coach of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 and the Rhone club will not start search for a new tactician before the season kicks off
Despite being under contract at the Velodrome until 2014, Olympique de Marseille coach Didier Deschamps no longer wished to be at the helm. Tired of the in-house bickering with sporting director Jose Anigo, disappointed at not having a free hand to impose
his own ideas and disliked by some of his own fans, the former World Cup winner has decided to call it a day.
The two sides recently reached an agreement to terminate his contract by mutual consent. Late last, Olympique de Marseille’s official website formalised Deschamps’ departure although the financial details of this agreement have not yet been mentioned.
A meeting between the club’s direction and Deschamps took place on May 23, 2012 in which a road map was given to the Frenchman. However, DD was not impressed by the ideas and chose to walk away from the club.
Circumstances were not right for Deschamps so he has now decided to try luck elsewhere.
“Mr. Didier Deschamps was received on May 23 by club officials to prepare for the 2012/2013 season. Didier Deschamps had stated his desire to leave OM, the terms of his departure were considered. Olympique de Marseille and Didier Deschamps have finally decided
by mutual agreement not to continue working for the 2012/2013 season.”
“Olympique de Marseille thanks Didier Deschamps for his work for the team for three years and wish him http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Good-Luck-c39444 for the future.”
The third year of Deschamps rein as Marseille manager ended in disappointment as Les Phoceens failed to qualify for the Champions League. Though they managed to win the Coupe de la Ligue, not being able to get a podium finish was not to be.
However, in all fairness, Deschamps era at the Velodrome should be remembered as one of the most prolific in terms of winning titles. Under the Bayonne native, Les Phoceens won three Coupe de la Ligue, one Ligue 1, Championnat and 2 Trophée des Champions.
