Didier Deschamps defines new role of Lucho Gonzalez – Ligue 1 news
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 coach Didier Deschamps has outlined the new role of playmaker Lucho Gonzalez in the club’s starting XI.
Recruited from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 in 2009 for a fee in the region of 18 million Euros, Lucho Gonzalez has always divided opinion in the Rhone province. His first season at the Phoceen club was a phenomenal one in which he helped the club win the 2009/2010 Ligue 1
Championelle. However, the Argentine international was inconsistent throughout the 2010/2011 campaign in which Marseille finished second behind eventual winners LOSC Lille.
This season, the South American made a great start despite Marseille’s woes. However the Argentine’s influence in the recent games has waned considerably which has witnessed his critics become more virulent of his performances.
After started every game in the Ligue 1 this season, the 30-year-old was benched in the win over Ajaccio in which Didier Deschamps used the 4-4-2 formation for the first time this campaign.
In the 4-0 Coupe de La Ligue win over http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/RC-Lens-c40322, Deschamps incorporated the same system but included Gonzalez in it. The result was mixed as after making a good start to the game, Lucho slowly disappeared. However, Deschamps now believes that the Argentine
can definitely evolve in the new system.
While talking to the media, Les Phoceens coach said, “It’s not the first time he has played there. He has done so this season and also did that last year in a decisive Champions League game in Moscow (0-3 win in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Russia-c2991).”
This system is different than the others as two players in the centre have to complement each other and will have less mobility to move in the offensive zone. Indeed, Lucho proved to be a good part of the formation and recovered balls and his offensive brilliance
was evident for some part of the game.
Many people have blamed Lucho Gonzalez for lacking in commitment. Deschamps however believes that Lucho is the right man for his new system.
“I see Lucho everyday and he is a professional, he has always been a professional,” reacted Deschamps.
With the new system now incorporated and Deschamps starting to get the best out of his players, it is only fair to say that Lucho Gonzalez should be able to adapt to a new strategy that might be the only strategy that could save Marseille’s faltering campaign
which has seen them win just two game in the league so far.
