Beaten by US Quevilly in the quarterfinals of Coupe de France, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 coach Didier Deschamps knows that the club is in a crisis situation and is waiting for a response from his players
On Tuesday, Olympique de Marseille were on the receiving end of one of the biggest upsets in the history of the Coupe de France as they lost to third-tier side US Quevilly in the quarterfinals.
He defeat was Marseille’s seventh consecutive defeat in all competitions – a catastrophic series of results which is the worst in the club’s history. Such has been their poor run that the qualification for the quarterfinals of the Champions League at the
expense of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan is no more enough to camouflage the run.
Last night, Les Phoceens displayed limitations in the squad. While many expected a reaction from the usual replacements (http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Charles-c8808 Kabore and Andre-Pierre Gignac), it wasn’t until the arrival of Loic Remy and Andre Ayew that gave Marseille a new
dimension against a Quevilly side that had nothing to lose.
What was even worse was the performance of goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gennaro-Bracigliano-c14523. The Frenchman is going to play in the first-leg of the Champions League semi-final against Bayern Munich at the Velodrome due to Mandanda’s suspension. The custodian’s performances
have failed to instil any sort of confidence.
Didier Deschamps is clearly worried about how things have gone from bad to ugly for his side. While talking in a press conference, the former Juventus coach took full blame for the humiliation at the hands of an amateur side.
“As a coach, I am responsible, and even put myself in front of you all. It (the defeat) gave a negative image and there is a sense of shame. At half-time, I exploded because we did nothing in the first half.”
Things are certainly getting totally out of hand at Olympique de Marseille. Now out of the Coupe de http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-Lyonnais-c40130 which might be the only way left for them to feature
in the Europa League next season.
