The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 coach said goodbye to one of the club’s most difficult season and while talking to journalists, took stock of a demoralising campaign
On the last day of the 2011/2012 Ligue 1 campaign, Olympique de Marseille lost 1-0 to FC Sochaux at the Stade Auguste Bonal. The defeat was Les Phoceens’ 14th of the campaign and the fans would be thanking the gods that a truly testing and traumatising
campaign has finally come to an end.
On a day when Montpellier were crowned the latest champions of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899, Olympique de Marseille never gave a full account of themselves. The only thing that the game would be remembered for would be seeing striker Andre-Pierre Gignac lead Marseille out of
the tunnel. The France international was made captain for the day due to a http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Charity-c38784 bet.
However, being a captain had no influence on Gignac’s performance whatsoever. Devoid of realism and any ability to actually test Les Lionceaux defence, Marseille gave a poor showing that simply sums up their poor season in which the only highlight would
be winning the Coupe de la Ligue.
While talking to reporters, coach Didier Deschamps said that despite missing so many players, the team did well. However, the tactician says that there were times in the season when the club deserved something out of several games.
Going to the lighter side of things, Deschamps spoke about the good moments that the club enjoyed. Deschamps spoke about the Champions League adventure in which they eliminated the likes of Borussia Dortmund and then http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan and also spoke of the final
win over Lyon.
“This year, I remember the intense moments of joy in the Coupe de la Ligue and the Champions League. There were also rare good times in the league including the home win against Paris. The season has been difficult. There have been atrocious series of results
for far too long. Finishing tenth represents a huge disappointment.”
Certainly, Marseille misfired from all cylinders and deserve to finish the Championnat as the 10th best team in France.
Though Deschamps’ future is still unclear, it is clear that the club needs a major facelift this summer.
