Despite slightly edging the two-legged game against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 coach, Didier Deschamps, is not looking to put extra pressure on his players to do something big at the San Siro
Losing two away games against promoted Ligue 1 sides and then successfully qualifying to the Champions League knockouts at the expense of Inter Milan seems to be a tall order for Olympique de Marseille.
As they take on Claudio Ranieri’s Inter side, coach Didier Deschamps knows that his side will have to be at their best in order to beat a side that has had almost the same domestic problems that they have been experiencing.
Marseille carry a one-goal lead over the Italians but Didier Deschamps knows that anything can happen at the San Siro and has thus chosen to take some pressure off his players.
“I think Inter are favourites. We have nothing to lose, Inter are a great team that will play hard. But we have a good chance to qualify. Logically, Inter should qualify,” said Didier Deschamps.
For OM, the primary objective (of winning at home) has been achieved already and whatever good comes next, should be taken as a bonus. However, winning at home has given Les Phoceens the right to dream for a place in the quarterfinals.
However, their hopes could be shattered if one takes a look at their domestic form that is showing no signs of improvement.
While talking to the media, Deschamps tried his best to explain what has gone wrong in the Ligue 1. According to the former Juventus player and manager, there were many reasons for his side’s drop in form.
“The absence of key players in one. I also got very tired players at the end of the CAN. There was a lack of realism and then success. We had bad refereeing decisions.”
However, the return of Loic Remy to full fitness is a good news for the Frenchman. The striker has been sorely missed and his return could prove to be a major deciding factor in Marseille’s ambitions of doing the impossible against an Inter side that might
be in for a hard time at home.
