Didier Deschamps says Manchester United lack imagination: UEFA Champions League news
Olympique Marseille manager Didier Deschamps has tagged Manchester United as a team that lacks imagination ahead of their round of 16 fixture of the UEFA Champions League against the Red Devils.
Marseille will face Manchester United on Wednesday, 23 February, 2011 at Stade Velodrome.
The 42-year-old former Juventus manager has praised United’s ability to come back into the game at any stage and demands a lot of hard work from his side in order to trouble United.
The French manager still believes that United are the best team around in the business and Marseille will have to play out of their skins in order to produce something extraordinary especially when the French side travels to Old Trafford for the second leg
of the tie.
But the 42-year-old has all the focus on Wednesday’s game and wants his team to unsettle United’s defence at least once in the game.
Deschamps believes that since the record transfer of the Portuguese winger http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cristiano-Ronaldo-c9629, the Red Devils have lacked a bit of zeal and venom.
“Maybe this team has a bit less fantasy than we have seen in the past,” Deschamps said.
The Frenchman insisted that no matter how good a team you are when playing in your own backyard, the real test arrives when you get a chance to face other oppositions from different parts of the world.
“I have heard a lot about their style of play, but the thing is it's not always the nicest-looking team that wins titles. In 1993, with Marseille, we didn't have the nicest team but we won a lot of trophies, including the European Cup,” Deschamps added.
The Marseille boss appeared confident that his team has a good chance of mauling the Red Devils as Sir Alex Ferguson’s United are not the same team that they once were a few years back.
Manchester United are currently leading the English Premier League flight and have lost only once in the current 2010-11 season.
