Chelsea striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Didier-Drogba-c11044 has revealed he decided to leave the club after winning the UEFA Champions League with them.
The man of the match not on scored the equalizing goal against Bayern Munich, but also scored the last penalty in the penalty shoot-out that won Chelsea the European trophy. After just three days of winning the trophy, Drogba announced he would be leaving
the club.
The 34-year-old will be leaving the club after eight years, having arrived at Stamford Bridge in 2004 under manager Jose Mourinho. Ever since he joined, the London side have been competing for the Champions League trophy and up until now have been unable
to secure it.
Having played a vital role in helping his side claim the coveted trophy, Drogba believes his work with Chelsea is done and that he needs to make a move to another club for a fresh challenge. The Ivorian striker said he hoped the fans would understand his
decision to leave.
Drogba said in an interview:
“I think winning the game was the key. Not me scoring the penalty. Winning the game was the turning point, that's why I have decided to say goodbye.
We made the story together and I want people to remember that. This is the best time to move on.”
Drogba joined http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 from Ligue 1 side Marseille and since then has made 338 appearances in all competitions and has scored 157 goals along with 71 assists. Along with winning the Premier League Golden Boot in 2007 and 2012, Drogba was crowned the Chelsea
Players’ Player of the Year and Chelsea Player of the Year in 2007 and 2010 respectively.
His last request to the fans was that they understood and accepted his decision to part ways with the club. According to Drogba, it was because of the supporters that he had worked hard and finally won the UEFA Champions League.
He continued:
“We were talking for many weeks, but the turning point was based on the fact I won everything I could and scored in most of the finals we have played, trying to make a difference. I hope everyone will understand. Everything I did was for the fans and
I hope they understand.”
