Chelsea striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Didier-Drogba-c11044 has denied reports that he attempted to undermine Andre Villas-Boas’ authority during the half-time talk in the Birmingham City FA Cup draw.
After the 1-1 draw against the Championship side, the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 manager Andre Villas-Boas reacted somewhat angrily to questions about Drogba questioning his authority during the half time team talk. It was after half-time that Drogba was brought off the bench,
but failed to make a difference for his side.
With the highly important UEFA Champions League clash against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Napoli-c40003 coming up, Drogba spoke to reports and cleared up the misunderstanding that seemed to have surfaced. According to the 33-year-old he had merely contributed to the half time team talk to
motivate the players.
Drogba said in an interview:
“I want to make things clear - the manager made a speech at half-time, and after that, I think he's got some leaders in the team, in the squad. We're here to help him.
We were just trying to bring the team up. We did what the manager wanted us to do and tried to apply what he was saying. Nothing more.”
The Ivorian forward insisted his intentions were to merely help the manager and nothing more. He felt the entire incident had been blown out of proportion by the media and should not be given further importance since it was disruptive and distracting for
the team.
It was previously also suggested and later confirmed by Villas-Boas that he no longer enjoyed the full support of the entire squad. However, Drogba denied that he, along with his teammates, were unsupportive of Villas-Boas and shared responsibility for the
poor result.
The Ivory Coast striker revealed:
“Chelsea Football Club is responsible for the results and I think we all have to play our game. The players have to play their game.”
At the same time Drogba confirmed the current season had been the worst since he had joined the club in 2004, but he remained confident about the chances of the Blues turning things around since there was little they could not accomplish if they put in team
effort.
He continued:
“We've been in a difficult situation the last few weeks, few months, but in the past we always found the strength to play these games and to win them.”
