It was Drogba’s goal which was the match winner against the Reds, with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ramires-c30523 having scored first for the London side and Liverpool striker Andy Carroll having also gotten in a goal. However, the Blues went on to defeat Kenny Dalglish’s side and lift the
FA Cup.
Their next challenge is the UEFA Champions League final on the 19th of May against Bayern Munich, a trophy which will not only guarantee excellence in the whole of Europe but also a spot in next seasons Champions League. Chelsea have failed to
secure a spot in the top four of the English Premier League.
If things do not change in the last few remaining games and the Blues do not win the Champions League then they will not be playing in the European competition next season. That is why Chelsea under http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-c31294 Di Matteo have more reasons than one to defeat
Bayern Munich to win the Champions League for the very first team.
Drogba admitted his side were extremely determined to claim the coveted European trophy since it would be the last chance for many of them to do so. The majority of the Chelsea squad are in their 30’s and close to retirement from football.
Drogba said in an interview:
"It's the last trophy we are chasing, the one we haven't won. So it would be nice to go there and do it. It's not going to be easy.
I think playing in Munich will be very difficult against this team. We have to go there and try our luck.”
The ageing squad will get their chance to prove themselves in a season which has been somewhat of a roller coaster ride for them. After a decent start under manager Andre Villas-Boas, the Blues suffered a mid-season slump which destroyed their hopes of winning
the Premier League title.
Villas-Boas was sacked and assistant manager Roberto Di Matteo appointed as the manager and under him the Blues have flourished. After winning the FA Cup, they now have a very good chance of winning the Champions League trophy.
Drogba was asked if the current season would bring an end to his Chelsea career, but the striker hinted he would continue to play on for the Blues. He revealed:
“It's not finished yet!”
