Didier Drogba fit for Chelsea return while Frank Lampard has to wait
The English champions Chelsea are boosted by the news of the return of Didier Drogba to full action, while their talismanic midfielder Frank Lampard still needs some time to recuperate from his injury.
Chelsea striker Didier Drogba is fully fit to come back to 1st team action after sitting out of two matches. Drogba suffered from a viral fever and was taken out of the Chelsea team that played Aston Villa last Saturday.
The West London side dearly missed their star striker as they failed to break through Villa’s resolute defence. The match ended in a stalemate, which resulted in two dropped points for the Blues. Although, a perfectly timed volley from Yuri Zhirkov and a clinical
strike from Nicolas Anelka proved enough for a victory against Spartak Moscow in midweek, the presence of Drogba will provide Chelsea with an all together different attacking option against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Chelsea will be looking to return to scoring ways, when they face the Wolves at Stamford Bridge, on Saturday. The champions have scored 14 goals in 4 league matches that they have played in front of their home fans, and with the
Ivorian striker spearheading their attacks, odds will be stacked in favour of the Blues.
Chelsea will be without their dependable midfielder Frank Lampard, who is still nursing his hernia operation. Chelsea’s No.8 has not featured in any match since the end of August. The Blues have greatly missed the goal scoring
services of their vice-captain. In his absence, the midfield trio of Mikel John Obi, Michael Essien and Ramires, has not been able to provide the perfect substitute for Lampard’s genius in front of goal.
Lampard is working hard to get back to 1st team action, and his recovery news seems to be encouraging. Paul Clement, the 1st
team assistant coach, announced good news for the Blues faithful.
“Frank is progressing really well. He had a terrific session earlier in the week with Chris Jones (assistant fitness coach) doing some individual work, he's really pushing himself.”
There is no doubt that Chelsea will miss Lampard, for the forthcoming Barclays Premier League fixture against Wolves, but when the England international does make his way back into the starting lineup, Chelsea will have a more
versatile attacking midfield.
With the comeback of their African star, Chelsea will be looking to maintain their position at the top of the EPL table. The Blues are currently two points clear of the resurgent Manchester City, after playing 8 matches.
