Chelsea hit-man Didier Drogba revealed he was keen on signing a contract extension with the London side and finishing his career at Stamford Bridge. The 33-year-old Ivory Coast international will be out of contract next year, which is why the club has begun
negotiations over a new contract, which will most likely keep Drogba at the club until he retires from football.
Despite being one of the most senior players at the club, Drogba is still in top form. He already has seven seasons at the club under his belt and looks to continue on with Chelsea in the upcoming seasons. The Blues have reportedly offered him a one year
contract extension, which will keep him with the Premier League giants until 2014.
Drogba was thought to have been replaced by former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707, who was signed in the January transfer window of last season for a record breaking fee of £50 million. However, the Spaniard failed to perform and then manager Carlo Ancelotti
was forced to once again rely on Drogba, who rarely disappointed.
Now that Andre Villas-Boas has replaced the Italian manager, the young Portuguese looks to continue on with the Ivorian. After being appointed the manager, the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 manager revealed he was satisfied with the existing squad and did not wish to
offload any players in the summer transfer window, confirming that Drogba would continue on with the club.
Thus, the rumours linking Drogba away from Stamford Bridge have been dismissed by both the player and the new manager. Drogba insisted that he now wished to remain at Chelsea and end his career at the London club, despite previously claiming that he wanted
to make a move away. He insisted he was extremely committed to the club and was looking forward to a contract extension.
Drogba said while speaking to reporters:
“I said a few years ago that I will be here until the end of my contract. But I would like to finish my career here. We are continuing talks.
Everybody knows what I feel about Chelsea and what I want.”
Villas-Boas confirmed that the club had indeed made the striker an offer to sign a contract extension and remain at the club. He said the striker had made a counter-offer and that the deal was yet to be agreed on. However, he remained hopeful that the Blues
could come to an agreement with Drogba and retain his services in the upcoming seasons.
Villas-Boas said in an interview:
“Didier knows about our offers and he has made a counter-offer, and we are evaluating some things.”
