Chelsea finally managed to get a home win in the Premier League as the Blues beat Blackburn Rovers 2-0, to get all 3 points. The defending champions have found it hard to get going in the last couple of months, which has seen them fall from the top of the
table to the 5th spot. However, a win on the weekend against Ipswich Town in the FA cup (7-0), followed by a convincing league win at home, would go a long way towards lifting the morale of the team. There was clearly some relief in the defending
champions' camp, and their ace marksman, Didier Drogba, was probably the happiest man after the result.
Drogba said that he never stopped believing in his manager and his team and himself. However, he admitted that the recent poor run had affected the whole team and the two back-to-back wins would go a long way towards changing the mood in the Chelsea camp.
While talking to a British sports channel, Drogba said that a year or so back, no one could have imagined http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 struggling to win at home. Things have certainly changed to some degree since then, but the recent win at home very was heartening. He said
that it is difficult to accept the fact that a fortress like Stamford Bridge can, all of a sudden, become a ground where Chelsea are most vulnerable. The Ivory Coast international went on to say that every team goes through tough times, but it is the way they
bounce back that determines their mental and physical toughness.
Drogba said, "Just because we are Chelsea it doesn't mean that nothing can happen to us... of course it was good to win today, and winning the last game in the FA Cup gave us a little bit more confidence for the next games"
He admitted that it was, by no means, an easy game, and the Rovers did give Chelsea a quite a run for their money. He further added, "It's always like this when you are looking for goals when you're not winning games... it's a bit of a struggle but in the
end we got them".
The win will provide the Blues with some momentum, but the fact still remains that they are 8 points behind Manchester United, and they have also played a game more. Drogba said that the gap between Chelsea and Manchester United does not bother him. He said
that he has seen it before and there is plenty of time left in the season to catch up to the League Leaders. He reiterated that Chelsea are the defending Champions and they did not get there by giving up easily.
Drogba, the man who won the golden boot last season and played a big role in Chelsea winning the league, concluded by asserting that if Chelsea manage to win their games... against Manchester United, Arsenal and Manchester City, they should be able to get
back on top of the table in due time.
