Chelsea striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Didier-Drogba-c11044 has admitted it would be a disaster if his side fail to qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season after dropping out from the top four.
A 2-0 defeat to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c13019 over the weekend saw the Blues stumble out of the top four on the Premier League table to fifth place, behind Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal. At fifth place they are no longer set to qualify for
the European competition next season.
The Blues will have to work hard and win most of their remaining fixtures if they are to overcome http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 and Tottenham Hotspur for the fourth or third spot, respectively. While they were initially challenging for the Premier League crown, Chelsea are now
left fighting for a Champions League spot.
Drogba, who has been away since the African Cup of Nations started, has not had any role to play for the Blues over the tricky winter period. The Ivory Coast international led his country to the final of the AFCON finals, only to return empty handed, missing
a penalty and the trophy as a result.
However, he hopes to have better luck with his club in the Premier League. The 33-year-old striker revealed the current season had been extremely tough and it would be lucky if the Blues managed to overcome their difficulties and manage a place in the Champions
League next season.
Drogba said in an interview:
“If we don't make the top four it would be a disaster.
Every time we've started a season since I've been with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 we never even finished as low as fourth.
It is the hardest season I've known since I've been here.”
During his absence, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 international has failed to perform even in the absence of Didier Drogba and can now be labelled as a flop without too much protest from his admirers. Having given all the opportunity
any striker could ask for, Torres has failed to perform on numerous occasions. The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 star has scored just five goals in all competitions for the Blues since joining in the last January transfer window.
