Didier Drogba has admitted that Chelsea are starting to lose their cool after enduring their worst slump in recent memory.
The reigning champions are currently in fifth place, despite being five points clear at the top just two months ago. The Blues have won only one match in their last eight attempts. Their failure to win on Sunday against a struggling Aston Villa side has
heaped even more pressure onto the ailing champions.
Chelsea’s promising start has been negated by a terrible run of form which saw the team drop twenty out of the thirty points available to them. Much of this is due to injuries to key players like Essien, Lampard, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/John-Terry-c18895, Zhirkov and Alex.
Ivorian international Didier Drogba has also struggled to return to fitness after he was diagnosed with malaria back in November 2010. If the side continues to drop points like this, they run the risk of losing their Premier League crown as well as their
spot in the Champions League.
Drogba has recently spoken out about the difficulties he is facing after recuperating from the effects of malaria. Speaking after the loss to Aston Villa, Drogba said, “Injuries and the malaria have damaged my performances. I am still not 100% but I am fighting
in each match to improve my playing levels and help the team. This season has been complicated for me by physical problems. It has not been easy to regain my strength but we need the points and my presence is necessary. I have always sacrificed for the team
- and Chelsea need me.”
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 striker went on to admit that the recent slump has led to unrest in the locker room. Drogba added, “In the last weeks Carlo Ancelotti has been unhappy - and the squad, too. Chelsea are not accustomed to defeats and the dressing room has suffered.”
With the Blues currently in fifth place, it seems increasingly unlikely that they will be able to retain the Barclays Premier League title. It looks like manager Carlo Ancelotti will need divine intervention to salvage Chelsea’s season from here onwards.
