Didier Drogba says Liverpool defeat ended title hopes
Didier Drogba has admitted that Chelsea’s recent 1-0 defeat at the hands of Liverpool has ended their hopes of retaining the Premier League title in the on-going 2010-11 season.
The prolific goalscorer of the Blues also admitted that his teammates are still struggling to find their last season’s form which earned them the Premier League title and FA Cup. Drogba insisted that the Blues are not accustomed of losing so many games and
that is why it was becoming hard for them to return to their best.
He admitted, “I am finding this bad spell hard to live with - and I am not the only one. Carlo Ancelotti has not been happy with us in recent weeks and all the injuries, the poor results and the lack of goals have created a bad mood around the place. For
my own part, my performances this season have suffered because of injuries and because of the malaria I contracted at the end of last year.”
Chelsea are still 10 points behind league leaders, Manchester United, who also suffered their first defeat of the season against bottom placed Wolverhampton Wanderers recently.
But according to the Ivory Coast skipper, the Liverpool defeat ended Chelsea’s mini-revival. Before the game, the Blues won three Premier League games in a row for the first time since October 2010 and things had started to look good for Carlo Ancelotti’s
men.
The 32-year-old striker admitted that Liverpool ‘cut their legs away’ and now it would be hard for them to stop the Red Devils from winning the Premier League title.
However, Didier Drogba was impressed by the performance of Chelsea’s new £50-million signing Fernando Torres and said that he can make a lethal striking partnership with the former Liverpool man.
Drogba said, “Fernando is such a talented player and he will be very important for our team. But his arrival means we have a lot of competition for places in attack and that can only be good for Chelsea because that factor has helped us win many trophies
over the last few years.”
