Didier Drogba warn rivals that his best is yet to come; Bastian Schweinsteiger for move to Chelsea?
Chelsea striker will celebrate his 33rd
birthday come March but insists that he has yet to hit his peak. This claim would send shivers down the spines of rival teams as they look to contain the Ivory Coast hit-man, who hasn’t scored in his last six games for Chelsea. This run coincided with Chelsea’s
worst run in decades as they look to defend their Premiership crown and conquer Europe.
Drogba was a latecomer to the game and only started his professional career playing for Guingamp at the age of 21; however, after moving to the Blues six years ago, he has firmly established himself as one of the best strikers
in the world.
While giving an interview to Chelsea’s official magazine, he said:
"I think I'm getting better with age. I started very late at the highest level as I was 25 when I played one season for Marseille and then I came here. So I don't know if that's a good or bad thing, but I feel I'm improving every
season and, because I started late, I'm not tired or fed up with playing.
"I don't know when I'm going to stop because I love what I'm doing."
Drogba is the temp-captain of Chelsea in the absence of injured John Terry and Frank Lampard.
He said: "I try to motivate and give the example on the pitch - you've got to make sure what you say in the dressing room, you apply it on the pitch.
"But it's the same when I'm not captain. This armband doesn't change anything for me. I don't change my personality; I'm the same as always."
Drogba, who has suffered malaria in recent weeks which has affected his form, has two main aims for the rest of the campaign.
He added: "First of all, it is for everybody to be in good health because with health you can try to achieve everything you want”.
"Then I want to see everybody at Chelsea celebrating the Champions League at Wembley."
Meanwhile, Chelsea have been linked with German international Bastian Schweinsteiger, who has 18 months left on his current contract at Bayern Munich.
His performances haven’t gone unnoticed and have attracted the interest of Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti. The English champions are keen to strengthen their midfield, with the side rocked by Frank Lampard's injury this term.
However, Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has issued a hands-off notice to the Premier League side.
He said: "We will not be letting the player go before his contract ends in 2012."
In other news, Chelsea have reached an amicable agreement with Ray Wilkins, after the latter was surprisingly released by Chelsea.
LMA chief executive Richard Bevan added: "All parties are delighted that an agreement has been reached in a cordial and professional manner.”
