That he would be coming back in the first century after his death? If this is so, why do so many people think he's coming back "soon"? People have been saying for centuries he will be back soon, still no sign. I'm just curious.

  1. Donna your close enough here, I am paying for just this understanding at the moment. I have so far got a lot of answers, but need to work them out before I say what I think. I took it to mean St Stephan as he saw the Glory of God before he was killed by the Jews but it isn't sitting right. I believe I'm close to an answer and will get in touch with you when I do.

So far it is clear that a lot of what is written about the anti-Christ was about Nero and the abomination was te temple destroyed in 69 ad.

It is a lot of work as I need to check every thing with the Church teaching and the bible, this can take a while but I will get there, so when i do I will be on to you.

  2. Jesus said that no one knows, not even himself knows when he will return.  Only the Father knows.

  3. If you read the book of Revelations ("end times") you'll see several similarities between what ancient Bible says will happen and the world today. No one knows when the world will come to an end, but we're on a fast track to no where.

  4. I met this old man down in northern Georgia a few years ago who was just a plain old hillbilly but had the most wonderful stories about growing up in those hills. He would talk for hours but he would always come around to Revelations in the Bible and how we were living in the last days, that Jesus was coming any day, etc, etc, etc,. That was usually my clue to slip away!  ~ : )

One day i went down to visit and there was a lady there helping him to clean up the place. The old man was out and we got to talking and she told me that all her life she had lived in these hills and that she had noticed that as soon as the men got a little age on them " somewhere around 80 or 90 " they all got to ranting and raving about the end of time!

  5. Jesus frequently said He would return either during the lifetimes of those listening to Him or during the lifetimes of those who recorded His life (ie the authors of the New Testament)....

I guess He changed His mind!

    RAmen, Donna...

  6. Paul warned the church not to expect the coming of Christ in his day.

2 Thessalonians 2:3. Not until after the great apostasy and long period of the reign of "the man of sin". This period ended in 1798.

  7. the words written in red in a bible are believed to be said by jesus and rest are impurity.....

it is written in quran that jesus will come to earth before day of judgement to rule for forty years......

i belive quran becoz it is most pure scripture as there are 20 crore people in world whose mother tongue is Arabic.....

bible was written in Hebrew and it is today a dead language...so there are many possibilities of editing

  8. No, he never did. When he comes back, believe me, we will know, and he will make sure of that. You may call it coincidence, but we call it the end of the world, and the rapture. You aren't just curious. You just have this perverted need to prove Christianity wrong for some God-forsaken reason. Funny, since being a Christian is based on faith, not proof, but there should be plenty of proof as is. Just look at the fact that we exist and the universe exists. Ask yourself this; Does challenging a Christians beliefs make you any better of a person? Does it help the world? What are you getting out of it?

No scheme of man is going to break my faith, for it is strong, and blessed. Don't think your words are special for a damned second.

  9. There are two passages that I know of that you could be referring to. These are the two that people use to say that Jesus said he would be coming back in the first century. The first is in Matthew chapter 24. It says.

Mat 24:32 ¶ Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer [is] nigh:

Mat 24:33  So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, [even] at the doors.

Mat 24:34  Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

In these verses Jesus teaches us that we must know the parable of the fig tree to understand when he would return. The fig tree is Israel, and when it is young then this generation would not pass away until all things be fulfilled. That is why this is the generation that will see all things be fulfilled. Israel just became a nation again in 1948.

The second is found in Mark chapter 9. It says

Mar 9:1 And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power.

In this verse Jesus tells us that they would not taste death until they see the kingdom of God come with power.

In Luke we learn that the kingdom of God is inside us, not the literal kingdom that he will set up when he does return. So the people he was talking to did see the kingdom of God before they died. He also tells them that they will want to see the days of the Son of man but they would not.

Luk 17:20 ¶ And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation:

Luk 17:21  Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.

Luk 17:22  And he said unto the disciples, The days will come, when ye shall desire to see one of the days of the Son of man, and ye shall not see [it].

Jesus spoke in parables so that people who knew him would understand and people who did not would not know what he was speaking about. So people who do not know him use these verses to say that he would come back in the first century.

I seen you answer a question and say you are a Yankees fan and a Jets fan. I love the Yankees and will be watching the Jets this year because of Farve. They should be much better with him and the other off season acusitions.

  10. Because with the threat of imminent judgment you can extort more money.

  11. Maybe God will make a man pregnant this time?

  12. Sort of.  He said that the disciples would not die before they saw Him in His glory.  This could be referring to the Transfiguration, the glorified body He had after resurrection, the vision of the Apocalypse John had, or all three.

But the angels told the disciples that Jesus would also return again the way He left, in Acts 1.  The disciples had a lot of trouble understanding Jesus.  I think they "got it" as time passed.

Edit:  A question is asked about something from the Bible.  I give references from the Bible in answer (without quoting verses directly, because I know that drives atheists nuts), and I get thumbs-down?  You guys make no sense sometimes.  Would you give thumbs-down if someone was asking about Gulliver's Travels, and I gave answers from the book?

  13. Using your own "maybe not in these words" to answer.

Jesus promised his disciples that he would be with them always from his resurrection onward, but particularly from Pentecost 33CE, that was when they were brought into his Kingdom of his love, he having received all authority in heaven and earth upon his resurrection, being made king then.

This all obedient Christians have experienced with prayers answered and being taught by the holy spirit and the Paraclete.

However, if you refer to the signs mentioned in e.g. Matt chapter 24, we can see that this refers particularly to the time of the end.  This time is also mentioned in Daniel chapters 7, 8, 11, 12, and perhaps other places.

If we join these references, it becomes clear that we live in what could perhaps be said to be Christ's presence, his parousia.  He said this time would be known by the sign(among many) that there would be a great many saying that Christ is here and there.

Particularly since 1830-1850 has the number of religions skyrocketed, each claiming to teach the only 'true' Christ.  More so than the other signs mentioned when looking at previous centuries, this clearly tells us that this is the time of the end.

The fact that his presence was said to be like the lightning in the sky, tells us that he would be in no single physical form to be found but rather that he be present in an intense manner busily working with his disciples and cleansing the rest of the saints that needed to be found by putting them through the furnace of affliction. (Refer to Malachi 3:1-3).

It seems that at the moment we are just before the situation that shall happen in Dan 11:29.  Once the thing in Daniel 11:31 happens then the final few end-events are known in both duration and kind where finally Christ comes with his angels and Saints to cleanse the earth is upon us.  Just prior to this the sign of Christ shall be seen in the sky.

  14. If it is not exactly then how can you say that he said it? and how can you say that he was coming in the first century? I have read the bible it is nowhere to be found. Why do you make up stories like this?

  15. He didn't say an exact time, In fact He said of that day and time no man can know, but that we should watch the signs, and be ready. Also we should remember that one day is no different than a 1000 years to God. He is not restricted to time.

    More about what Jesus said:

    Matt 24:3-51

  16. You can't blame Jebus. It's the fault of the unknown writers who put the words in his non-existent mouth.

Edit @ Ray K - I believe you. Religious delusions can definitely occur in dreams. Is your metaphorical seat belt still strapped on? Too bad.

  17. He said, "this generation shall not pass away,"  Death is not what it appears. It is only the end of your present body, the person inside lives on and is given a new body that is indestructible and disease free. The Greek word for death is the same term used for the transformation of a caterpillar into a butterfly. The people of that generation that Jesus was speaking to are still alive. Adam, the first man, is still alive. I too, was once an agnostic. But one evening God came to me and gave me a guided tour of h**l. Since that time the personal proofs have come one after another. To determine if God is real, just say this prayer, "Jesus, if you are real, please give me the guided tour of h**l." Fasten your seat belt.

  18. Some Believe The End is Near Now.

    MATTHEW 24.

    D&C 39: 21.

21 For the time is at hand; the aday or the hour no man knoweth; but it surely shall ccome.

    D&C 49: 7.

NO MAN KNOWS THE HOUR/ DAY/ WHEN JESUS IS COMING

7 I, the Lord God, have spoken it; but the hour and the aday no man knoweth, neither the angels in heaven, nor shall they know until he comes.

We don't know the earth time of creation of the earth. Nor do we know when the Second Coming of Jesus will be.

However there will be signs indicating JESUS RETURN TO EARTH MAY BE NEAR

    COMINGhttp://www.christadelphia.org/pamphlet/c...

    Some SIgns

Scripture speaks of particular events which precede the return of Christ. According to Jesus the first sign is the world-wide evangelisation of all nations. 'And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.' SIGNS OF END TIMES

"What are the signs of the end times?"

Answer: Matthew 24:5-8 gives us some important clues so we can discern the approach of the end times, “For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am the Christ,' and will deceive many. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places.” An increase in false messiahs, an increase in warfare, and increases in famines, plagues, and natural disasters – these items are “signs” of the end times. Even in this passage, though, we are given a warning. We are not to be deceived (Matthew 24:4), because these events are only the beginning of birth pains (Matthew 24:8), the end is still to come (Matthew 24:6).

Many interpreters point to every earthquake, every political upheaval, and every attack on Israel as a sure sign that the end times are rapidly approaching. While these events are signs that the end times are approaching, they are not necessarily indicators that the end times have arrived. The Apostle Paul warned that the last days would bring a marked increase in false teaching. “In the latter times, some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils” (1 Timothy 4:1). The last days are described as “perilous times” because of the increasingly evil character of man and people who actively “resist the truth” (2 Timothy 3:1-9; see also 2 Thessalonians 2:3).http://www.gotquestions.org/signs-end-ti...

  19. Jesus said no man knows the hour but that we could discern the time.

When we read te scriptures we can see that the time is near.

As you say many have been wrong.

There are signs that have not yet happened so the time is not immediate.

Those who thought he was coming earlier definitely misinterpreted the signs Christ will not return before the temple is rebuilt and the antichrist revealed.

  20. He couldn't catch a cab.

First off, they weren't invented for 1900 years, then there weren't enough to go around so he's waiting in the queue.

  21. It is as simple, as wishful thinking of deluded mind

They are injected with this very idea by church, because, once you lose your ´´faith´´ you don´t need religion.

It is just a game, to keep the sheep in herd, for business purpose.

Sad, the sheep are not willing to see that
