Question:

Didn't anybody else noticed this about the Olympic closing ceremony?

OK, so the closing ceremony had 3 parts...

The first part called Reunion where all of the remaining athletes came into the stadium, London got the Olympic flag and rode out in a double decker bus.

The second part was called Memories, filled with acobatic artistry.

Then the third part called celebration... which was supposed to be this huge concert like show with dancing, jubilation and singing...

......... as I watched it it reminded me of one thing... EAT BULAGA!

All of a sudden, the what was supposed to be best part of the evening turned out to be a huge 90 thousand seater VARIETY SHOW. If you could notice the athletes in the stadium, then you'd see nobody among them was really dancing or cheering during all that.

And man oh man was it boring. I mean what do you think the rest of the world would feel if Manila hosted the Olympic games and for the closing show all there is to see is Regine Velasquez and the cast of (insert favorite teen-movie here) screaming her lungs out in Tagalog?

And how boring was that presentation by the UK? A double decker bus to symbolize London? How frigging unexpected was that?

The only good part of that was Jimmy Page playing the guitar.

  1. Clever! I like the "Eat Bulaga" part.

  2. obviously, China dealt with the aesthetics and not more on the singing. what do you expect them to use for practice- English when most of their people could not understand a thing or two in English?

and besides, aren't you suppose to uplift your nation by using Tagalog songs if ever we host the Olympics?

China did what they can and still i could say they did their best. the last part was great, really great.fantastic!

    *additional:

oh,i miss that point. maybe that's how they wanted the celebration done. maybe they thought, having their own actors and actresses would be a good representation of what China is now - a variety show..

i agree with you on that..hehe

but still they managed to amaze us with their talents and creativity.

  3. I thought it was good and I thank the Chinese for a good show. The entire world knew the Chinese would put on a great Olympic event this year and that is why the Olympics were held in their country. I don't think any world Olympic event will ever be hosted in the Philippines. Imagine the kind of closing ceremony the Filipinos would put on. I can see it now, pathetic karaoke being sung in which Filipino songs take like 1hr to finish and the songs are so gloomy that you'll suffer some kind of post traumatic stress after wards. The worst part would be Filipinos singing American songs with the heaviest accent. So if ya didn't like the closing ceremony for this year's Olympics, think about it this way it could have been much worst.

  4. The closing ceremonies may not be as extravagant as the opening ceremonies but it's not bad either. I have great respect to the ceremonies director, Zhang Yimou. His works have an "epic" feel on it (remember his movie Hero with Jet Li, Donnie Yen, Zhang Ziyi) and he continues to impress everyone with the spectacular Olympics ceremonies. Choreographing and directing a very big presentation with a stage larger than an effin' football field is no joke. Kudos too to the presenters whom I've read somewhere are volunteers. It takes a lot of sacrifice and discipline to be flawless in a presentation. I can never think something like that can happen here in the USA. Everyone thinks their time is so valuable and precious and expects compensation for any activity that requires their time and participation.

I don't mind the variety show, after all, it's China's show. It's their opportunity to showcase what they got - their creativity and talents. If the Olympics would have been in the USA at the moment, I bet Miley Cyrus, The Jonas', or other pop singer will be performing.

As for the UK presentation, I didn't find it impressive either maybe because I do not know much their culture (maybe I should learn some.) compared to the Chinese. They have their famous pop star Leona Lewis perform too.

Bottom line is each nation is proud to present their best artists and someone who have no idea or appreciation of a country's culture will never be impressed.

Let's see other future Olympic host nations beat what China presented.

P.S. Lol, USA is advertising [more profanity] RL in their outfits.

  5. it's a world stage to showcase their own local talents. any nation would have done the same thing.

  7. And then?  So what?  And why should I bother?  At least they  managed to pull off a great show to the whole world and that comparison of yours is like comparing an apple to an orange.  Philippines would NEVER and I repeat would NEVER, not in the million years that could host a big event like that.  At the end of the day it's the medals that always count.  Philippines?  What?  No medals yet?  Oh sorry!  I almost forgot about Willy Wang.  Haha!  Why was it that not a single politician was cheering for him?   Where was Chavit anyway?  Oh!  Someone please throw a hard punch in my face.

    added:

Yes, I have to admit that the presentation was quite monotonous but c'mon it only comprises about 10% of the total presentation.  What about the judges, the competitors, those awesome venues, and lastly the volunteers and the staff who helped made this big and impossible dream possible?  Naku naman!  If you were one of the volunteers who worked non-stop for 16 days without pay and someone like you tell something bad about the job you've done, what would you feel?  And mind you their job is far from ordinary.

    added:

You're  funny and I mean it because you remind of that early morning show from ABS that ridiculed Chinese people for using "barok"  (sa tagalog: HUMAHA-GALPAK pa nga sila eh na may tumatalsik pang LAWAY ganun katindi ang pang mamata ng mga nakuuuh!!  sarap tirisin!) english on their menus.  Hah! What a remark coming from a third world US wanna be industriliazed country.  Shame on them.  Is that responsible journalism?  I could even hear their staff laughing at those Chinese for not using the correct english. Sheesh!  Saan ba tayo pupulutin nyan!  Haha!  This kind of EW! behavior really irritates me!  Sorry pal, I know you're good and everything but this is what I really feel.

  8. I missed the Closing Ceremony of the Olympics. I was stuck watching the documentary about Ninoy Aquino.

Out of respect for those who do Variety Shows, that would require great talent for that to be produced. We may be think its cheap, cheesy, and effortless. But those are talent and its more difficult to extract.
