What do I do now? I'm pretty lost at this point, I haven't always had the best grades in highschool and I was wondering what I can do to get accepted into a good university?

  1. It much easier to go into colleges as a transfer student!  Also it matters on what specific college/program in the university you applied to.  Try for a less competitve program next time.

But for now, go the college you got accept to.  Work you *** off for high grade during the first semester, and they wont look at your SAts when you're transfering, but they will look at high school grades again.

  2. Have you thought about a junior college, improve your grade record, and then apply for a transfer?

  3. It happens. Didn't you apply to back-up schools?

If not and you plan on going this fall I would suggest contacting your local community college then trying to transfer after a year.

  4. well, did you not get accepted on account of your test grades?

if u did get bad grades, you can ask for a do over then apply again

  5. WO! How come you are only asking this question now, instead of back in April when the acceptance letters for the good schools were sent out!  You have created a problem for yourself.

If you didn't get good grades in HS why do you want to go to a tough university. The courses there are going to be significantly harder than high school, so if you are only an average student, it makes sense for you to go to an average college.

I think there is a good option - check the community colleges near you. Some people are prejudiced against CCs but you should know that nearly half of all US college students start in CCs. There are lots of good teachers at the CCs and you can get a good start there with less pressure and stress than at a 4 year school.  Many CCs have agreements with their state univerisity that if a student gets an AA or AS degree at the CC, then they will be accepted into the state university to complete their BS or BA. This is an inexpensive way to get started on a solid education.

I would not count on transferring to a high quality private college from CC, though. It is NOT true that it is easier to transfer than to get in as a Freshman. For many schools it is much harder. But you do not have that option because you said you have not had high grades. Focus on what is possible and realistic.

You should not hesitate with this. You should check it out right away and be ready to start classes immediately. Many of the CCs will be starting classes within the next two weeks and if you do not act quickly you will have to wait three or four months to start. THat would be bad.

    Good luck. Do it now.
