I signed lease a month ago and never got a copy of it. Is there any law that requires the landlord to provide it.

Thanks

  1. Seema,

Call your landlord and ask for a copy of your lease. If one is not delivered to you promptly, put your request in writing and send it to your landlord return receipt requested.

There exists no statute in the California Civil Code requiring you be given a copy of your lease. Notwithstanding, a copy should have been made available to you at the time you signed the lease.

You have not been damaged by the fact you have no lease copy and your landlord will be anxious to see you are fully aware of your obligations.

               Good luck.
