Diego Forlan adamant goals will come
Atletico Madrid striker Diego Forlan has insisted he will start scoring soon despite his lacklustre start to the current season.
Forlan led Uruguay to the semi-finals of the 2010 World Cup, scoring three goals in the tournament only to see his team lose 3–2 to Germany in the match for third place.
The Uruguayan, whose performance in the World Cup earned him FIFA's Golden Ball, awarded to the best player of the tournament, has since had trouble finding his form for Atletico.
The 31-year-old's last goal came against Athletic Bilbao on 11 September, and he has since gone 12 appearances without scoring for his club.
"Now the chances are not going in, but soon they will," Forland told Spanish daily
AS. "You need to continue trying and I'm determined to do that. You don't forget how to score goals and I'm not thinking day in day out that I haven't scored. The goals will soon arrive."
Forlan added that he is bound to get on his team's scoresheet soon, having failed to pounce on several chances in their last two league games against Real Madrid and Almeria.
"You need to be calm and nothing else. In the game against Madrid I had two or three chances, and the other day against Almeria the same thing happened. I feel bad for having lost the derby, but on a personal level I feel fine."
Cannot blame penalty decision against Real
Against Real Madrid, Atletico had a penalty appeal turned down after Xabi Alonso appeared to handle the ball inside the area, but Forlan said his team cannot blame referee Mateu Lahoz for their shortcomings against Jose Mourinho's team.
"The referee was wrong. There is no getting around it. The goals we conceded were not made by the referee. We cannot think about it. We have to play and nothing else."
Atletico host Universidad de Las Palmas in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday, 10 November, before taking on Osasuna in La Liga three days later.
