Diego Forlan insists he will stay at Atletico Madrid – La Liga news
Atletico Madrid striker, Diego Forlan, has cooled down the urgency going on about his summer transfer move, insisting he has no plans to quit the Spanish club despite reported interest from Turkish outfit, Galatasaray.
The SuperLig powerhouse, Galatasaray, are content to spend big in the summer transfer market as they have approached Atletico Madrid and shown keen interest in luring three of their premier players: Jose Antonio Reyes, Tomas Ujfalusi and Diego Forlan.
With the Uruguayan international claiming that he has no doubts over his future and will stay at Vicente Calderon until his current contract expires, Galatasaray would have to stay content with the signing of the former Czech international, Tomas Ujfalusi.
Reports indicate that the 33-year-old defender has penned a two-year contract with the Turkish club for a reported fee of 2 million Euros.
With Forlan failing to match his usually high standards in the season ended, many critics have raised question marks over the forward’s future with Atletico. The last season was not Forlan’s best by any means as he struggled to find the back of the net and
only scored a meagre 10 goals in a http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Total-c40747 of 42 appearances for Los Rojiblancos.
The Uruguayan international, while hoping that he would regain his lost form, vowed to stay with the club until his contract runs out in 2014.
"I have said it, and I repeat that I have two more years on my contract with Atletico and I plan to see it out, because I am very happy at the club and in Madrid.” Forlan affirmed.
When asked about his stance on the appointment of their new manager, Gregorio Manzano, he had only positive things to say. He believes Manzano to be the right person to pave the way forward for Atletico Madrid and was very optimistic that they would do well
as a team in the upcoming season.
“I have good references of him [Manzano]. I hope the club got it right in the decision and that the good results will return next year.” Forlan concluded.
In the 2010/11 season, Atletico Madrid finished seventh on the Spanish Primera Liga table with 58 points and would be hoping for better results in the upcoming season.
