Diego Lugano accepts criticism aimed at him – Ligue 1 news
At the centre of criticism in recent weeks, Paris Saint-Germain defender Diego Lugano has come to the front and has said that the best of his is yet to come.
In the 3-2 defeat at the hands of Dijon in the last 16 of the Coupe de la Ligue, Diego Lugano was made the scapegoat by fans and critics alike. After conceding a penalty that cut down PSG’s initial 2-goal lead to 2-1, Lugano showed incredible passivity in
the build up to Dijon’s second goal and in turn, had to bear the whistles and taunts of his own fans.
The jeers were a bit too uncalled for especially after Lugano had given reassuring performances since joining the cash-laden Parisian side from Turkish giants Fenerbahce in the summer transfer window.
Despite seeing so much criticism directed towards him, the captain of the Uruguay national team has come to the front and while talking to the magazine Paris Foot, the 30-year-old admitted his recent failings.
“Clearly I am not yet 100%. The championship (Ligue 1) is played at a very high tempo. I thought so. It is very competitive and leaves no room for improvisation. That’s why I’m taking a little time before giving my all on the pitch,” confessed the experienced
defender before indicating that his best is yet to come.
Lugano also said that he is feeling good at the club and is thankful for all the initial support given to him when he arrived at Paris.
Once past the critical component, the Canelones native gave his side the recipe to make sure that Les Rogues et Bleus are at the top of the Ligue 1 summit come the end of the current campaign.
“It will not be easy. The season is long and we have no illusions. We must be strong in order to succeed. The workforce is strong enough to demonstrate an ability to shine in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 and Europe. I’m sure that if this unity and attitude continues, the club
will record a great season,” said the Copa America champion.
Clearly, criticism directed at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/America-c38390 triumph earlier this year has stayed firm throughout this episode and will certainly return to the form that made him such a big star in last
year’s World Cup in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/South-Africa-c757.
