The Paris Saint-Germain centre-back failed to live up to expectations and flopped badly at PSG following his 3.5 million Euros move from Fenerbahce in 2011
The Uruguayan was signed by the capital side in order to boost their defence but the player failed to deliver what was expected of him and now it is highly likely that Les Parisiens will part ways with the player.
Lugano arrived in Paris with a star status and was signed to add much needed experience in the side. However, string of below-par performances pushed the player out of the starting eleven and his role was reduced to warming the bench in later stages of the
season.
Paris Saint-Germain made several additions to their ranks and the signing of the Brazilian Alex in the winter transfer window of 2012 was a clear message for Lugano that the bosses do not trust him anymore. PSG are in the market for a new defender and chances
of the Uruguayan getting regular game-time are looking very slim.
The veteran defender is still under contract with the Ligue 1 outfit but only 12 appearances last season have forced the player to seek his future somewhere else. Despite making only dozen appearances, Lugano received 7 yellow cards in 2011/2012 Ligue 1
campaign.
Uncertain situation of the player has alerted few clubs and newly-promoted Argentine side River Plate have been linked with the defender.
Diego Lugano is open to a move back to South http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Argentina-c2841 excites him. Defender’s former club Sao Paulo, where he spent three seasons from 2003 to 2006, are also interested in signing their former player.
River Plate who just won promotion to Argentine top tier after spending a year in the second flight, are in pole position to sign the player. However, Lugano’s wage demands are a problem for the Argentinean giants as they are not willing to meet his demands.
The 31-year-old earns 300,000 Euros per month in Paris and River Plate want him to lower his wage demands.
It is expected that Lugano will leave PSG before the start of next season and River Plate are in strong position to attain the services of the defender if they are able to satisfy the player's wage demands that is.
