Diego Maradona prepares Argentina Squad with controversial strategies
Argentinean Coach Diego Maradona seems to be living the moment with his players vying to double their count of World Cup victories. He is without any doubt the most notorious coach of this year’s World Cup in South Africa with an entire history of accidents and irregularities to prove that claim. Despite his off-field nuances, Diego Maradona is the best Argentinean player alive at the moment. Just like himself, Maradona has a star studded line-up which is all-set to attract a global attention from viewers in every nook and cranny that knows what football is all about.

The story of Diego Maradona is not short of a Hollywood flick to say the least. The legend went through some of the toughest times that a footballer can to gain the fame that he earned during his heydays. While the star made his country suffer indignity in the 1982 and 1994 World Cups, Maradona proved his critics wrong by becoming the saviour of the nation in the 1986 and 1990 World Cups when he powered the Argentineans into the finals.

His current assignment as coach of the Argentinean team in South Africa 2010 has resulted on media sparks largely because of his unorthodox and controversial techniques to train his team. Maradona is widely regarded in the inexperienced league of coaches that this World Cup in Africa has on offer. That would explain his latest technique to encourage more unity and teamwork among the team. While half of his team, including officials crouched on the floor only to reveal a line-up of the world’s best strikers, Maradona did not take the practice runs as a joke. One thing is for sure that Fabio Capello, Marcelo Lippi or Vicente del Bosque or even Dunga won’t be carrying out this in their practise.

The Napoli legend along with players like Javier Mascherano, Martin Palermo and Jonas Gutierrez lined up between the poles while the other half lined behind them, and then there was lightning fast balls flying from one side and players falling on the other.

Elsewhere, star Real Madrid and Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuain is appreciating the showdowns by Spain who are also the current European Champions. Higuain told that the Spanish side is clearly regarded as the hot favourites for the tournament this summer in South Africa, having already been given the name La Furia Roja meaning the favourite to lift the trophy.

Higuain clarified it in front of the media by saying, “We know that at the moment, Spain are the team who play the best football, but in a World Cup you never know. But Spain is the top candidates”.

Patriotically he added, “Argentina is my country and we will fight for it, hopefully we can bring this beautiful cup to Argentina. Hopefully Lionel Messi shows the same performance as he does in the Spanish league. For us, it will be decisive.” Though Higuain and Messi are in placed in rivalling team teams; namely Real Madrid and Barcelona, they still have a very strong friendship.

He told that he was being the perfect realist in the tournament when he believed, “We know that the World Cup will be very tough, because you have the best players there. If we want to win we need to do almost everything perfectly”.

Meanwhile the Argentine team has called upon the services of Maxi Rodriguez who represents Liverpool in the English Premier League. England and Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has clarified that he always knew the young star had the capability of rising above.

Rodriguez happens to be one of the two men from ‘La Albiceleste’ at ‘the Reds’. The other is the captain of the Argentine side Mascherano.

Gerrard reckons that the young star from Argentina has a bright future for his country and wishes the best for him. He said, “Maxi is a fantastic player. He’s got good movement and as a footballer it’s a pleasure to play with good players.” He further added, “That’s what Maxi is. He is a fantastic player".

Complementing his playing style and strategy he said, “He is an intelligent player and he can unlock defences.” That will be the key to the score this World Cup, the defenders this Cup have revolutionized; having built strategies for this Cup.

Spanish superstar Fernando Torres also thinks along the same lines. He said, “Maxi is the kind of player that is always up to the challenge.” He told that he was a tireless soul, always coming need of the team, “The more his team needs him, the more he offers. Maxi is hungry and when you have his hunger you can achieve anything”.

This year, the Argentine team in general is completely balanced having lost very few players to injuries. Their coach Maradona has already promised a naked run in the streets of Buenos Aires if his team wins. With the capability of proving everyone wrong and Messi in full form, the team can certainly make him remember that promise.
