Diego Milito ruled out of Inter-Bremen tie
According to the latest reports emerging from Italy, Nerazzuri hitman Diego Milito will not feature in tonight’s match against Werder Bremen. Milito has left the Appiano Gentile training ground where Inter usually trains.
The forward was in a race against time to be fit for the tie. It now seems the forward has lost the race and will watch his team mates from the stands.
The forward was making good recovery from his injury. Milito was seen training with the squad on Tuesday night and many expected the Argentine to make the substitute bench at the very least.
Milito was the undoubted player of the season for Inter Milan last year as the club won a historic double. The forward was reckless in his finishing as he scored a stunning 30 goals in all competitions. The forward often left his best performances for continental
stage as he blew up the Bayern Munich defence in the final with a sublime brace.
Milito’s form this season, however, has been disappointing at best. Following Mourinho’s departure from the club, the player has been a shadow of his imperious self. The striker looks really short on confidence as he is finding it hard to finish even the
simplest of chances.
Inter Milan usually plays a 4-3-3 formation with Milito as the lone striker, while Eto’o and Pandev flank him on the wings. In Milito’s absence, Eto’o will start upfront with Goran Pandev flanking him on the left.
Benitez now has to decide which player to place at the right of the forward trident. Last season, Inter had Mario Balotelli, whom they turned to in hours of need but the club sold the mercurial forward to Manchester City at the start of the season and failed
to acquire a replacement. Young Brazilian sensation, Philip Coutinho, might be given a chance to impress.
A defeat tonight might have the alarm bells ringing at San Siro. The club is yet to face Tottenham Hotspurs home and away, and defeat in any of those fixtures isn’t out of the question. Benitez must win the home matches in the group stages to make it to
the second round safely.
