Diego Milito's agent says striker unsettled under Benitez
Fernando Hidalgo, the agent of Inter Milan striker Diego Milito, has said the Argentinian feels unsettled at the club following manager Rafael Benitez's arrival over the summer.
The 31-year-old striker signed for the Italian club last summer, and enjoyed a fantastic first season, scoring 22 goals in 35 league appearances and six goals in the Champions League as his club won three
titles with Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho.
Milito scored both of Inter's goals in the Champions League final against Bayern Munich in May.
But with only three league fixtures played under Benitez, Hidalgo has said that Milito does not feel the new manager is confident in his ability.
"Diego doesn't feel the trust from his new coach," he told
Il Corriere dello Sport. "The Portuguese made him feel indispensable. He made him feel secure and he would transmit tranquility. These things don't happen now. In fact he is always under scrutiny. And when it's time for a player to come off it's always
Milito."
Milito has started all three Serie A games so far this season, but he has also failed to score and been substituted in every match. Under Mourinho, who has a reputation for instilling confidence in star
players at his clubs, things were different.
"Diego is not tranquil, but being a professional he knows these things can happen. He wants to come out of this fast even though he doesn't feel the trust he had last season. Someone like Milito needs
the support from his coach to be at his best."
Benitez brought Torres to Liverpool
Mourinho, who now coaches Real Madrid, has nurtured the talents of many other great strikers, such as Didier Drogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, at his previous clubs.
But Benitez, who brought Fernando Torres to Liverpool from Atletico Madrid, also has a proven ability to get goals out of his marksmen.
Inter play their next league game against Bari on Wednesday.
