Diego Sold Back To German Bundesliga
Juventus have officially confirmed that their midfielder Diego is going back to German Bundesliga.
Diego had joined Juventus last season from Bundesliga’s club Werder Bremen, but he couldn’t settle in his new environs at Serie A. Therefore, he has made his way back to Germany, after a deal worth €15.5 million was finalized between Juventus and another of Bundesliga’s club Wolfsburg. The officials at Wolfsburg have also confirmed the deal and said that the player has signed a four-year contract with them.
Although, Diego was by far Juventus’ best player in the last season, but still he remained far away from his full potential. As other Juventus’ players struggled with their fitness issues throughout the season, Diego worked hard for the team. He played in 33 league matches for them. Other major players including David Trezeguet, Alessandro Del Piero, Vicenzo Iaquinta and Mauro Camoranesi couldn’t play for long parts of the season. Due to this, the Old Lady failed to qualify for the Champions League spots at the season’s end.
Diego had a successful career previously in Bundesliga, at Werder Bremen. The Brazilian remained at the club between 2006 and 2009, during which he scored a lot of goals, and made a lot of assists to help his German team. He was known for his good techniques and passing skills, which made him a great midfielder among his contemporaries in Bundesliga. Due to his abilities he picked the eye of officials at Juventus, who signed him in order to strengthen their squad against Inter Milan.
Diego had a decent season at Torino, with his new club Juventus. He showed incredible fitness throughout the season, but fell short on other things like goal-scoring. During the season, he scored only five goals and made seven assists, which did nothing to help Juventus’ cause in Serie A. This was a drastic let down by the Brazilian, who had made much more impact in Werder Bremen, while playing in lesser fixtures. During his last season at Bremen, Diego scored 12 goals and made 5 assists in just 21 matches.
It was obvious that the Brazilian did not fit well in his new circumstances, due to which he has been sold back to Bundesliga. This deal would be helpful for Wolfsburg, the German champions in 2009. The club has not been able to reproduce their winning form in the last season, while a player like Diego would definitely help them to bounce back into action.
Juventus has already shown a great deal of involvement in the transfer market. The basic purpose is the same as before, i.e. they need to win a Serie A title, which was snatched away from them after a match-fixing scandal. Since then, no one has been able to challenge Inter Milan, as they have achieved six titles in a row. However, the basic problem lies with the striking options at Juventus, but nothing has been done so far to improve in that particular area.
Already, Juventus has signed two midfielders this season, which means that Diego would not be missed as much. Alberto Aquilani came to Juventus on a loan deal from Liverpool, but the club reserves the option to sign him in the next season. Also, Milos Krasic joined the club from CSKA Moscow. Krasic is supposed to be the best right now in Juventus’ squad, as he is tipped to become as good as legendary Pavel Nedved.
The season has already started for Juventus, and this time the team is determined to improve on their last performances. Although, Diego was a great player but the club has everything covered for the next season. So, it was better for the team to let him go, in search of better options in German Bundesliga.
