The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/VfL-Wolfsburg-c40881 midfielder has insisted that the side has a target of qualifying for Europe at the end of the season.
The Brazilian international has returned to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 after spending a season on loan with Atletico Madrid. The player won the UEFA Europa League with the Spanish side and despite his efforts, the Madrid based team opted not to make
his move permanent in the summer.
Diego has had his fair share of problems with Wolfsburg manager Felix Magath. The midfielder stormed out of a team meeting in last season after learning that he was not named in the first team. The manager criticised Diego for
is unprofessional behaviour and loaned him out for a year.
However, the two have sorted out their differences and the Brazilian is now a regular member of the squad. He insisted that team is hopeful of finishing in the top six in the Bundesliga standings table at the end of the season.
The former Werder Bremen man admitted that it was not be an easy task as there is some tough competition from a host of teams, but is confident that his team has what it takes to achieve the goal.
“Our goal is to qualify for a European competition, so at the very least we have to finish in sixth place. That won't be easy, but our team boasts the necessary quality to reach that target,” he was quoted as saying in an interview
to Bundesliga.de.
Diego added that Felix Magath has assembled a great squad for this season and insisted that the manager can win the league again with Wolfsburg. The player stated that Magath has shown in the past what he is capable of and the
Brazilian has full faith in his manager.
“[Magath] has proved several times in the past that he can build teams that are capable of playing as one of the foremost sides and winning titles,” he concluded.
