Diego brace helps Wolfsburg beat Borrusia Monchengladbach 2-1 - Bundesliga match update
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/VfL-Wolfsburg-c40881 beat Borrusia Monchengladbach 2-1 in a Bundesliga encounter at the Volkswagen arena on Friday evening. A brace from Diego helped the hosts to extend the gap from the relegation zone.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dieumerci-Mbokani-c11230 respectively. Lucien Favre made no changes to his side that beat Schalke
last weekend. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Idrissou-c16648 started upfront in a 4-4-2 formation for the visitors.
The first half started in lively fashion, as both sides looked to make early inroads. The hosts dominated the early possession and came close to open the scoring in the sixth minute. Cicero was fed just outside the box and his shot went just centimetres
away from the goal. Wolfsburg were a constant threat from the set pieces and created a host of chances from free kicks. Mbokani had a great chance of scoring in the tenth minute but his brilliant effort was turned away by the keeper.  The visitor’s first chance
at the goal came in the 19th minute, when Patrick Herrmann’s header from a cross was brilliantly saved by the Wolfsburg goalkeeper Marvin Hitz. The hosts enjoyed 61per cent possession in the first half hour and came close to scoring several times.
Wolfsburg were awarded a penalty when Juan Fernando Arango pulled down Sascha Reither from behind in the box. Diego took the penalty and sent it miles wide of the post, as the visitors breathed a sigh of relief. Moments later, Diego made amends for his early
miss. Reither played a beautiful pass in to the box, which was calmly slotted in by Diego, to make it 1-0 for Wolfsburg. The hosts continued with the same pressure throughout the half and doubled their tally just on the brink of half time. Diego scored direct
from a free kick just outside the box and left no bitterness for his early penalty miss.
The second half started in the same tempo, as the first half ended. The hosts continued with the pressure and created several goal scoring opportunities. Monchengladbach failed to dominate possession for longer periods and gave away the ball cheaply. The
visitors came close to scoring just before the hour mark, when Filip Daem’s free kick went just wide of the far post. The visitors enjoyed a good spell of play and were awarded a penalty when Jan p***k fouled Martin Stranzi in the box. The skipper, Daemi scored
from the penalty to make it 1-2 for the visitors. Wolfsburg immediately went on the attack and looked to score another to seal the game. The hosts held onto their slender lead and finished 2-1 in a much needed win.
Borrusia Monchengladbach remain in the bottom of the league table and relegation looks inevitable now. Wolfsburg will play Bayer Leverkusen in their next match on 5th March, whereas Borrusia Monchengladbach takes on Hoffenhiem the same day.
