Diego glad to be back in Germany
VfL Wolfsburg's new signing, Diego Ribas da Cunha, said that he is happy with his move back to the Bundesliga after spending only one season with Juventus in the Serie A.
The Brazilian enjoyed a great season for Werder Bremen in 2008–2009, leading the club to the UEFA Cup final and the German Cup title. But after signing for Juventus last summer, the playmaker could never
quite settle in with the Italian team.
"It wasn't a good season for me," Diego told Goal.com. "We had a good team, but it didn't work out for some reason. I wish I could have given more to the fans, but things simply didn't work out well for
the team."
Following his lacklustre season with Juventus, Diego joined Wolfsburg over the summer, becoming new manager Steve McClaren's first major signing for the team.
After making three league appearances and scoring two goals this season, one a spectacular overhead finish against Hannover 96, Diego is full of praise for the German league.
"In Serie A, the marking is very tight and you have little space. In the Bundesliga, it's much more tactical. It's hard to tell what are the best leagues in Europe, but the Bundesliga is certainly among
the best leagues."
Aims to impress Dunga ahead of 2014
With his native Brazil set to host the 2014 World Cup, Diego will be eager to impress national team coach Dunga during the current season.
Having played a part at the Beijing Olympics, where Brazil's U23 team reached third place, Diego said he was disappointed to have been left out of this year's World Cup.
"I always aim to be in the Selecao, but the 2014 World Cup will be something special. It's amazing when your native country hosts the World Cup. I really hope to be part of the national team in 2014 and
I'll do my utmost to be there."
