The Brazilian international has admitted that he was at fault last season, but is willing to perform at his best in the new season.
The former Juventus man has been involved with many off-the-field bust-ups with manager Felix Magath. The manager suspended him when the midfielder walked out of a team meeting last season and was subsequently loaned out to Spanish
side Atletico Madrid, where he won the UEFA Europa League.
There was talk that the player’s loan deal would be made a permanent one at the end of the previous campaign, but the Madrid based side refused to sign the Brazilian citing the transfer demand from Wolfsburg was high.
Diego insisted that he has disappointed many fans at Wolfsburg last season and offered his apology for his poor behaviour at the club. The midfielder stated that the fans had welcomed him warmly when he arrived at the Volkswagen
Arena, but he could not pay them back with good performances, which is certainly not good on his part.
“I know that I disappointed many of you at the end of the season before last, even though I was welcomed so warmly here in Wolfsburg. I apologised to our coach last season and I have learnt from my mistake,” he was quoted as saying
in an interview.
The former Werder Bremen man is happy that the manager has given him a second chance at the club and wants to grab this opportunity with both hands. The player is confident that he can reach his top form at Wolfsburg in the upcoming
season and is targeting a place in Europe at the end of the campaign.
“I am pleased that I am receiving a second, fair chance from Wolfsburg and my team mates. I can promise you that I will want to be the player who helps lead the team into Europe this season,” he concluded.

failed to cement his place in the starting line-up.
