Dieter Domke beats Toby Penty to claim Men’s Singles title at Swiss International 2012
Germany’s aggressive player Dieter Domke stole limelight by claiming Men’s Singles title after defeating England’s Toby Penty in the final battle of the Swiss International 2012 in Switzerland, on Sunday, October 21.
The in-form Domke, who was the third seeded player in the main draw of the tournament, worked really hard to beat his lower ranked English opponent after a stunning fight that took three games of inspiring badminton.
German shuttler took the opening game but lost his focus in the second game that slipped away from his hands with a close margin. However, he found his rhythm back in the decider and won the match in rubber sets in 46 minutes.
On the other hand, Penty also put up strong show against his higher ranked German opponent and managed to grab one game before losing the match to his opponent in three games.
Domke showed his aggression on court from the initial rallies of first game and built a remarkable pressure on his rival. He proved that he has attained highest class skills on court and eventually remained successful in taking a strong lead at the early
stage.
Until the end of first game, the aggressive Domke attained a strong position on board by establishing a reasonable gap.
German shuttler remained comfortable in the arena after the mid-game interval as he played in the similar fashion.
The positive and planned play of Domke assisted him to secure the opening game with a superb margin of 21-14.
However, things were different in the following set when Penty also put up strong resistance on court by playing to his best potential and remained successful in staying close in opening half.
After the break, Domke tried his best to put up strong show but failed to stop the aggression of his rival and lost the set with a 20-22 score on the board.
In the deciding game, Domke displayed his lofty craft on court by picking the bird early from all corners and stayed in commanding position until the break.
After the break, Domke controlled the pace of rallies and managed to end up the final game with a margin of 21-18.
Domke won this thrilling final battle in three games with an interesting 21-14, 20-22 and 21-18 total on the board.
