Dieter Hecking: I asked Philipp Wollscheid to join Bayer Leverkusen - Bundesliga News
FC Nurnberg manager, Dieter Hecking, has revealed his involvement in Bayer Leverkusen’s acquisition of Philipp Wollscheid. He told that Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund also expressed interest in the defender.
Wollscheid recently agreed to join Leverkusen on a two-year deal with effect from the start of next season. The Werkself came up with an official bid for the youngster which was approved by the Nurnberg officials after long hours of discussion.
Nurnberg, at first, were uninterested in selling the centre-back to any of the interested clubs but were forced to make a decision, following an impressive transfer amount. It is believed that the BayArena outfit came up with a 6 million Euro bid for the
22-year-old.
Der Legende manager expressed grief on the player’s transfer as he wanted to retain him beyond next season. However, Hecking wished the player all the very best for rest of his career and hoped that the defender could live up to the expectations of his new
side.
The tactician, though, was delighted with the fact that Wollscheid never hesitated in revealing his desire of joining any other club at the end of this campaign. He told that the defender came up to him and requested to accept an offer from the Werkself
as the transfer amount was deemed satisfactory by the Nurnberg officials.
While talking to Express on Wollscheid’s transfer, the boss further enthused:
"Of course I was not happy [with interest in Wollscheid]. But he came to me and was very honest. He asked me what he should do, because Bayern, Dortmund and Leverkusen wanted him. I advised him to join Leverkusen, because at Bayern or Dortmund, where there

"At first, it was good that Philipp decided to extend his contract. The transfer fee was now different as a result. I agreed to the transfer because the player wanted a change and we will use part of the transfer fee." The manager concluded.
