The tactician mentioned that his team were superior on the night and gave decent account of their quality. He admitted that Die Legende took time to settle down in front of the quality Schalke side but admired the way they gained
supremacy in the game after Balitsch opened the scoring in the 25th minute.
Hecking assured that Nuremberg will not get relegated at the end of this season and hailed the way his team responded amidst all the criticism. While addressing Bundesliga.de, the boss further added:
“In the first 15 or 20 minutes I thought Schalke were very good, but afterwards my team built up a head of steam and were rewarded for all their hard work in the last few weeks. I'd recently heard in a lot of places that we'd slip
back down the table, but we've given a great response to those critics.”
On the other hand, Schalke manager Huub Stevens showed his immense disappointment after losing to a less-fancied outfit. He claimed that his side made too many mistakes which eventually caused their own downfall. However, he urged
his players not to mourn this defeat and ensure direct qualification in next season’s UEFA Champions League by winning the remaining four fixtures.
“Of course I'm disappointed. We started well but then Nuremberg gained confidence from our mistakes, took control of them match and made things hard for us. I've told the guys that we now have to turn things around and get ourselves
ready for the game on Saturday,” Stevens concluded.
Nuremberg are currently 12th in the league standings with 35 points and will next be up against Kaiserslautern while Schalke will take on Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, April 14.
