  1. Easy - eat veggies and fruit. You'll find them in the supermarkets or in the open air markets. remember dieting alone won't keep you slim. A bit of excersise is always in order and if you are visiting Florence then you'll be walking your tail off Soooo you'll need to eat some carbs (plain pasta with juts a bit of olive oil and cheese) to get you around.

  2. Stock up on fresh fruits and vegetables at the market and eat plenty.

Only have 1 serving of pizza or 1 serving of pasta (about the size of your fist) each day.

Limit your gelato intake, if you do have some, get a piccolo (small) with a fruit flavor.

Only drink water or mineral water, avoid soda, water, liquor, wine. (I know the last one will be hard - maybe just try to limit yourself.)

Walk everywhere, instead of driving, if possible.

  3. Don't eat.  Just kidding!  Eat less....instead of eating a pasta dish, a meat dish with a side of vegetables, dessert, coffee, etc. just have a meat dish with vegetables or a simple pasta dish.  Don't eat desserts or gelato (all though, it will be difficult).  Do as the Italians do and drink lots of water and wine and very little soda pop.  Walk a lot so even if you do eat too much you won't feel guilty.  Heck, you'd probably burn everything off.  I've been living in Italy for the last 9 years, and I'm a pig when it comes to eating, and I'm actually thinner now than when I lived in the States!

P.S.  In a lot of restuarants, they have what's called insalatone.  They are basically large bowls of tossed salad.  They have different kinds....I like mine with tuna and mozzarella or hard-boiled eggs, cherry-tomatoes, black olives, etc.  They are really big and can be very filling.  Try one.
