Former Liverpool player, Dietmar Hamann believes that the newly appointed Reds manager, Brendan Rodgers was the perfect choice for the Merseyside club, as they look to change the current gloomy situation at Anfield.

of his signings to make any notable impact on the team. Following their defeat against Swansea City on the last day of the season, the Reds went a step further as they fired the Kop legend and manager, Kenny Dalglish from his post.
However, with the new gaffer now at the helm, the ex German footballer let out his hope that the Reds will be able to put up a much better show under his supervision. He also believes that the new manager's playing philosophy was in phase with the team’s
current style of play.
While talking to reporters, he said: “I like Brendan Rodgers. He is a very good manager. He is young, enthusiastic and he played the game the way Liverpool always played it. And yes I believe he will do well.”
The 38-year old capped 280 appearances for Liverpool during his playing days, and was a part of the teams which won the Champions League in 2005 and the FA Cup winner’s medals in 2001 and 2006. Besides which, he also coached the Conference team, Stockport
County for one year.
Putting forward his views on what to expect from Reds in the future, Hamann admitted that their progression will be gradual and one cannot expect the Northern Irishman to deliver results over night. He opined that the Merseyside club should first set their
focus on returning Champions League football to Anfield, and was hopeful that in a couple of years, they will be able to launch a challenge for the league title.
He added, “I hope in a few years time Liverpool will be challenging for the title. But they have to take it step by step and get into the Champions League first.”
