Diff between mag and no mag on rifle.?

whatr is the diff between a 300 win and a 300 win mag. What doe magnum do? make it shoot further?

Ditto to de witt, but I'll also add that yes, in the case of the 300 winnie mag, it shoots farther and faster (faster, therefore farther) than the 300 winchester. They are the same bullet, but the magnum uses more gunpowder. Therefore, it kicks much more.

First, you'll want to be careful with your abbreviations: in this context, it's short for "magnum," but it's often used as an abbreviation for "magazine" as well.

There is no official and universal definition. A magnum champagne bottle is twice as big as a standard bottle. About a century ago, some British gunmakers started using the term to mean a case with larger capacity than the standard of the same caliber, and the convention stuck. There are, of course, cartridges with a large case capacity that aren't called magnums but have the extra performance you'd expect, and some called magnums that aren't much bigger than the comparative standard cartridge.
