  1. Most obstetricians are also gynocologists - midwives specialise in the non surgical areas.

  2. Midwives listen. Obstetricians don't.

  3. Not much really, except midwife's don't perform c-sections and obstetrician's can.  I had a midwife when i was pregnant.  She was a certified nurse midwife (CNM) and I gave birth in a hospital.  Some midwives don't have formal training and they help women give birth in their homes.

  4. I had a private midwife and she was great.  She had a small birthing center that felt very comfy, i had her cell and home number (we still chat regularly), but most important, she was availabe for me WHENEVER and she was very patient with me through my 24 hr labor and didn't rush me once.  I've never seen an OB but on tv so i couldnt speak for them. All i can say of them is that what i saw on tv convinced me to never see one.

  5. OB is a doctor, they deal with pregnancy, infertility and stuff like that. They usually view pregnancy as a medical problem and treat it that way. If you are high risk you'll have to see an OB. Plus, they use interventions way more often than a midwife.

Midwife, there are several different kinds. But a CNM has a lot of training and views pregnancy as a natural thing. They usually see low risk woman, and they spend more time with you than an OB discussing nutrition and much more. If you are wanting a natural birth, I would suggest seeing a midwife...they have a very low risk of C-section and other interventions. Plus, they stay with you throughout your WHOLE labor as where an OB usually will come and go..or you won't see them until you start pushing.

Some midwives have a ton of training, and they have a lot more experience with actual labors than most doctors do...b/c OB's mostly come in just as you are about to deliver...

  6. Midwife - nurse

    Obs - Dr

  7. the obstetrician is a Dr
