Difference b/w champagne and sparkling wine?

Just to reiterate, its champagne because it comes from the champagne region, that is all.

They are the same but unless the grapes were grown in Champagne, France, they have to call it  sparkling wine.

nothing physically, but only sparkling wine from the "champagne" region in france is called champagne

Champagne is a sparking wine that is made in the Champagne region of France.  All other sparking wines that people call Champage, are in fact only sparking wines if they are made outside the region.
