Difference between 8 gauge wire?

Ya I was wondering is there really a difference when there is an 8 gauge wire kit that says 800 watt peak and one that says 350 peak i mean they both are 8 gauge wire so how is it different in power.

  1. You get what you pay for with wire.  Take into consideration that when they give the gauge of wire some companies measure the actual stranded wire while others measure the outer insulation to get the gauge size.   Here is where bigger is better applies in regards to the actual wire not the insulation on it.

Well, there are differences in conductivity in wires of the same gauge, depending upon the material of which the wire is made and whether or not it is multi-strand or solid core.  That seems like an awfully wide gap however.  To account for that much variance I would almost have to think the lower one is aluminum or some very cheap copper alloy.  Eight gauge is pretty thick wire, after all.

  4. The quality of the wire make be different to withstand didnt current flow. You should never look a peak ratings because peak only happens so often.  rms is what matters.
